Good for Union College. It is one of the biggest anomolys ever. Has one of the highest Tuitions and Fees in the whole country and isnt even one of the Top 50 Colleges.
Union College's ranking in the 2014 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 41. Its tuition and fees are $46,785 (2013-14).

It is in the top 50 of some ratings. It is an EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD college.

For tuition of almost $50,000, it should be. Why did you REFUSE to go to college their for all the praise you lavish on them?
But DV, tell us--with evidence--what grads are staying in Schenectady other then McTHIEF's new political crony (who never owned a house, never paid taxes, no knowledge, background or experience in appraising property values, nor real estate) who's job experience is helping millionaires and she is named assessor despite absolutely no qualification whatsoever.
And for all that in tuition, and for all the taxpaying properties they took off the tax rolls, resulting in reduction in the tax base, what are the homeowners getting in return?

I still haven't seen a cogent, intelligent argument made as to why it is a bad thing that one of the City-County's major employers wants to invest $9 million in a new dorm. Lots of personal attacks and stupid questions but not a single cogent, intelligent argument from those who oppose ALL attempts at improvement and progress in our community.

"Why did you REFUSE to go to college their for all the praise you lavish on them?" I'm trying to find where you said you "REFUSED" to go there...and why that has anything to do with their expansion? Frankly, I think that's a DUMB point totally irrelevant to the discussion, and an unsupported allegation.
"But DV, tell us--with evidence--what grads are staying in Schenectady..." Wow, and this is important because???? I mean students come from all over the "country" to go to different schools. Where is it an indicator of anything as to how many stay in the area of the school they attended? Frankly, I think that's a DUMB point totally irrelevant to the discussion, and an indication of someone's lack of understanding!
Guess we should be asking how many graduates stay in ALBANY that went to SUNY; TROY that went to RPI, SIENA; HVCC; how many stayed in Rochester that went to RIT; how many stayed in ......oh, crap....you get what I'm saying. Irrelevant non-indicator of anything. Not sure I recall last time I heard someone chose the college they attended because their ultimate goal was to live in that community.

Union College students have gone off campus into the community for over 200 years. Over those years, many have "fallen in love with" Schenectady and chosen to stay here after graduation. They continue to do that.
Deep down, I couldn't disagree with you more about the issue of Union building a new dorm.

The college can do what they what, but what will it do for the financially struggling homeowner IN the city? What will it do to the property values of the decent landlords who rented to students and now will have no renters and no income and how will they pay the taxes?
The one that will gain is the college, they will spend the money they will be getting more money out of students and landlords will have less money and there will be more empty houses in a city that is quickly becoming a ghost town.
When will someone spend money that will benefit the people and the neighborhoods without taking taxpayer money

Premature and unfounded statement. You have no idea what may happen in the future after dorms are built. You have no idea if they intend to expand and off-campus housing will be effected. You are making assumptions again....common thread with you!
What difference does it make that DVOR didn't go to Union...how is that of any impact on the topic of Union expansion? Irrelevant comment...you just want to stalk DVOR on everything.
What does graduates moving to Schdy have to do with any of this? Did you go to College? Did you make the decision of what college you wanted to go to because it was in the community you wanted to spend your career in? Where would businesses, hospitals, etc., be if students didn't locate where they want to work? It was an rrelevant and uneducated point!
