Anyone notice the matching bikes they have at Union college and downtown, are these for rent or what?

The City of Schenectady’s Bikeshare Week is Thursday July 10th through Wednesday July 16th! There will be 25 bicycles available for use between 10am and 8pm at the following locations:
1) the corner of State St. and Jay St. (on Friday, July 11th, this location will be moved to Jay St. in front of City Hall),
2) along Union St. outside of Union College’s Webster House, and
3) along Union St. in front of the First Reformed Church.
Staff members will be located at the Jay St. location to sign users up and give a quick tutorial on how the program and bikes operate. There will be no cost to participants, although a credit card will be needed as security for the bikes.

a great idea for some...but for the kids without a credit card, not so much
True, although they can always steal one which seems to be the norm in Schenectady

I understood it something you can only "borrow" the bike with a credit card but it's still free. So who is paying, the taxpayers? Great idea for a PRIVATE business to do. Waiting for Pinocchio's comments, of course he couldn't even ride a tricycle
Nice to encourage bike riding especially since it's great exercise though much too dangerous in this city with the cars and crime. Great place to ride is on South Shore Rd up to the Conklingville Dam (and that's even "south" of the bridge. Early mornings at the camp

Bike sharing is a great idea. It is being done in a number of cities all around the globe. The City-County of Schenectady is joining a growing world-wide trend. The next step would be to provide dedicated bike lanes along the thoroughfares leading from the suburbs into the city and around the city. More workers could bike to and from work during the nice weather.

Bike lanes is not a bad idea, although the majority of the bike riders in this city wouldn't use them, they would rather ride down the center of the road and give you a stare when you get to close. I see one guy all the time who rides his bike in the car lanes and holds up traffic, he has the fruity Lance Armstrong getup on to

I'm in favor of the bike share .... I have seen it in some big cities .............. Problem is three bike stations is not enough as you could only lock them in the stations.
Not a bad idea at all but not very practical as it is set up now. I realize this is only a trial so perhaps there are plans to put stations in other areas of the city. Right now you can basically bike between three fairly close stations all downtown. Where are the stations in the neighborhoods? It would be nice for people to be able to travel throughout the entire city.

i doubt they had "stations in the neighborhoods"in mind when this was thought up...most likely just a downtown tourist type perk
don't care about bike sharing.........as long as it ain't costing the taxpayers one red cent.
