Downtown has come a long way since the days of decay and ruin under the Farley-Jurzynski regime. People are actually willing to invest money downtown. People are opening new businesses -- reopening old businesses -- downtown is buzzing everyday with positive activity --- there is a real sense of dynamic optimism now. It makes most everyone proud to residents of the City-County of Schenectady.
As usual DV will NOT even so much as put a pinky toe over the town/city line on the city side. Does he have his little beach towel on the hot pavement trying to soak up some sun? Wait, "can someone help me get up?"
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
One of these days. We will, or maybe we have already done some. Sadly the party colludes together to screw the taxpayers
If done well though... The comptroller almost has to investigate... Or if it is clearly particularly egregious maybe even the FBI...
Especially if you were to warn them after a grace period you'd be sending it to the TU and publishing it online. That type of warning might get the comptroller to be concerned about blow back if they do nothing.
Also in the same article. $900,000 to clean up a parking lot less than an 1/2 acre in size? Really the best use of this money? Something fishy here.
Approved $85,000 to match a $815,000 state grant to clean up a vacant lot at 37 Van Guysling Ave., Schenectady. Once cleaned up, the lot will provide a development site in the Broadway Commerce Park.
Nothing fishy. It depends on what that lot may have been used as in the past. A gas station? Dry cleaning? Some industrial use? In that case, they are probably cleaning up hazardous materials that may be in the soil. The state wouldn't have given an $815,000 grant to clean up "nothing".

'upscale' ..... so tired of the 'upscale' word.......
upscale of the local taxpayers upscale of the 'I dont want to live like that' upscale type of cheese needed to invite upscale people to allow locals to lick their upscale butts with low paying service jobs....
COST TO THE CITY/COUNTY.....PRICELESS!
now how about that casino for some upscale elbow rubbing and butt licking......I'm sure there's a janitorial cart for everyone to participate in the butt licking, I'm sure there's a food/drink service cart for some, I'm sure there's a valet parking position available etc etc.....FEUDAL SYSTEM never sounded so cool......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

You and the other nayboobs were happier when the buildings downtown were vacant and everything was deteriorating.

No, just don't like putting my children on the hook for millions of dollars in order to make millionaires wealthier. Lower taxes and reduce regulations, and you would have gotten the same result. The only difference is, a political party would not have been in a position to be king maker with future generations money.
You and the other nayboobs were happier when the buildings downtown were vacant and everything was deteriorating.
And this is what you are happy about, right?????? This is why you won't come anywhere NEAR the city, not even dare put your pinky toe IN the city (THAT is why you started going to church OUTSIDE of the city in hotsy totsy Niskayuna---no way will you enter the city boundaries)
THIS IS WHAT YOUR BUDDY DEMS HAVE DONE TO THE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE DEMS LEADERS HAVE DONE THIS:
YOUR BUDDY DEMS have been spending the taxpayers money on downtown and their millionaire political cronies and THIS IS WHAT HAS BECOME OF THE CITY!!!!!!
DO YOU HAVE THE GUTS TO ACTUALLY DISCUSS THE FACTS????????
Shall we continue with more? When are your buddy dems going to stoop spending the taxpayers' money on downtown and start spending the taxpayers money on the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live? NO ANSWER FROM DV, OF COURSE.

That may be true, At least the tax base was much much higher
At least taxes were substantially lower
Property values were higher back then
Homes were selling back then
People were actually moving INTO the city -- both rental AND buying houses (to own AND occupy)
Home sale prices were higher back then
Essential city services were provided to the residents in exchange for their tax dollars.
The mayor declared snow emergencies and cars were parked on opposite sites for just a mere 48 hours to facility PROPER snow plowing of city streets. (today the dem leaders spend the money on downtown and claim the have to money for a snow emergency - NEVER ONCE di the dems declare an emergency).
Far fewer abandoned homes back then
Far less blight in the city back then.
Children could play outside more without fear of being shot in a drive-by
People could walk to the corner store without being in fear of their life..
There were stores in which you could actually buy things you need
Big whoop if downtown seemed empty, property values were higher, taxes lower, neighborhoods received essential services.

Expect more great RENAISSANCE announcements in the weeks ahead. The City-County of Schenectady is moving full speed ahead in the right direction.

Right direction?
More blight More drop in the city tax base? More abandoned houses? More people fleeing the city More reduction in the home values?
Why are you NEVER willing to DISCUSS the issues based on the FACTS
Why do you NEVER want to discuss the impact of downtown on the city's tax base? Why do you NEVER want to discuss the impact of downtown on the property values? Why do you NEVER want to discuss the impact of downtown on the home sales in the city? Why do you NEVER want to discuss the impact of downtown on the home sales prices in the city? Why do you NEVER want to discuss the impact of downtown on the tax BILLS in the city?

We were happier when there were small businesses, not freeloading corporate welfare tycoons.
Schenectady properties would be valuable if not for Metroplex.
They destroy property values and cause homes to be taken for the benefit of the corporate elite.
Agreed and DV refuses to carry on a discussion about the FACTS, just spew babble that things are getting better but not a shred of evidence can he produce to support his statemmens.
