1. Great food options at affordable prices ... ESP. Italiano
2. Lots of historic buildings
3. Proctors (aside from the tax issue, I think the good outweighs the bad)

5. Lots of mom and pops (still)

...what am I missing??
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Nothing more to say, watch the whole video if you can.

I get it. You hate black people. But spend a Friday night in a redneck bar and the odds of a brawl are the same. The hope for poor of any race is bettering education and opportunity ... It may take generations.

LOL.
OOPS, "typo"
While I'm not "into" historic houses/architecture, I will be the first to admit much is beautiful. But I'm sure the owners have to pay a fortune to maintain them.
And many of the houses have history behind them, Schenectady has history but so does Albany. What is the difference between and Indian tribe in Schenenectady several hundred years ago and a different Indian tribe in perhaps Wisconsin several hundred years ago? A historic event in France and a historic event in Italy -- what's the difference. If I'm into history, I don't have to leave Schenectady; I can go to the Stockade, I can go to the Historical Society. I don't have to leave Schenectady for information about history. Likewise, if I live in Wisconsin, I do not need to come to Schenectady to visit historic places. But I understand history buffs will travel more, but what percent of the population is so into history.
The city does have a good high school, I mean with the IB program, however out of all students in a given grade at the high school, what percent are really in that program? But that said, more than half of the rest can't graduate, can't read, write or do math, and the school district then is making poor decisions in offering all the non-essential fluff classes (finger nail painting and hair sculpting, assorted dance classes, cooking, etc) when students have not mastered the absolute basic necessities of education. Studends need to know how to read in order to fill out a job application, buy a car (read the contract before signing), fill out the medical history at a doctor's office. Students need to know math to determine how much money they have left out of their check, to know if they have enough money to buy something they want, etc. Students must know how to write which mandates proper grammar because what does this sentence really mean? "Rachel Ray loves cooking her family and her dog." The spending on the all those non essential fluff and play classes is something the homeowners cannot afford and all that fluff drives up the cost per student. I wonder how much the cost per student is at Gibbons?
Proctors is nice, but should never have a taxpayer paid edge over any of it's competition anywhere in the country. It needs to stand on its own two feet because homeowners simply cannot afford it, and should taxpayers lose their homes or go bankrupt because they can't afford to pay for Proctors?

I post a video made by a black person and you call me racist for posting it I posted it to show what many don't see or wish to ignore because they have the luxury to live in a nicer part of the city, which as everyone knows is shrinking every day. How many Schenectady cops do you think live within 3 miles of where this video was made, you know the answer to that. How many of our officials or those involved with metroplex live within 3 miles of where this video was made, again you know the answer to that as well. There is much to like in this city many of which you posted however the bad outweighs the good in many areas.

What exactly is bettering education and what is opportunity? I know it is a political cliche, but how is it defined? I see Guyanese people working everywhere and owning property. How did they become better educated and find opportunity that many American poor are unable to get?

The first half of that video, yes, but the second half shows a disdain for black people including the Sister Greco story, some naked black woman who seems special needs and a black guy in drag engaging in gay sex. It's typical mammie stuff.

What do you mean there is white people in the video I posted, skip to 10:57 and 17:20 in the video

Instead of jumping on the race train, and accusing the poster, why are you not upset at the person who actually TAPED the video.
This is how some actually live and spend their time on Hamilton Hill, for too many years it's been ignored that's why its spreading to the once nicer neighborhoods.
Too bad the churches and non profits who claim to care about the youth don't spend some time on these street corners.

The best part is, Jaystreet doesn't know your race, and assumed you are a racist and hate black people for posting the video. For all anybody knows, you could be black. And the second assumption Jaystreet makes is that a black person would never post such a video. Except for the fact that a black person made the video and uploaded it onto YouTube. Now wouldn't uploading it onto YouTube be racist?

The video was shocking and perhaps it was made by a black man, but is off topic for this thread and offers nothing constructive. You see it as us vs. "them," ... That is the wrong mindset for fixing the issues you have ... But we will agree to disagree. People on posting boards never change their minds...
