You are missing the fact that government is not a business. The budgets are created out of politics. What prevents the school districts and police union from consolidating their political power and money to influence who gets elected and writes the budgets in the newly consolidated agency? The interst groups within the government will follow the power.
You are missing the FACT that taxpayers are paying for a NEEDLESS DUPLICATION of administrative and management offices. There is NO reason to have 6 Superintendent of Schools, 6 Business Managers, 6 Transportation Managers, 6 or more Assistant Superintendents, 6 sets of District clerical staff, 8 municipal executives, 8 municipal clerks, 8 municipal receivers of taxes, and on and on .. no need. There are MORE taxpayers than there are unionized employees -- the taxpayers have the power to influence who gets elected and who writes the budgets and who writes the contracts. Sadly, most taxpayers are either complacent, hate change or satisfied with the status quo. |
