Boil advisory was expected to last 24 to 36 hours?

It's been 48 already

This is what we --- who are taxpayers --- get in return for a tripling of the water tax which is not tax deductible

It comes down to what the majority of residents feel is important

the residents of Rotterdam feel

police officers that make over $100,000 are important in Rotterdam

high density housing is important to Rotterdam residents

Water supply is not important and it should be free

Rotterdam boil-water advisory could be lifted today

ROTTERDAM — A 21-inch water valve on Bernard Street in Rotterdam failed after the last of six water main breaks were repaired Tuesday, the town said.

The number of broken water mains previously was reported as four, but town officials Wednesday said that number is up to six because the Schermerhorn Road water main broke in three places, not one.

The broken valve on the Bernard Street main will mean a handful of homes on Bernard and Wallace streets won’t have drinkable water until sometime next week. The town plans to repair that valve Monday, during which time those houses will have no water at all, Deputy Supervisor Wayne Calder said.

The broken valve has led to a loss of water pressure in some parts of Rotterdam, the release said.

Calder said the broken valve doesn’t affect the town’s testing of the water, and the boil-water advisory could be lifted by 5 p.m. today, assuming the water tests come back clean.

The town took the first samples of the water Wednesday after the series of water main breaks occurred early Monday morning and left about 22,000 people without drinkable water. The samples were sent to a New York state-certified water testing facility Wednesday afternoon, and a second sample was to be tested 12 hours later.

If both tests find the water to be clean and safe to drink, the Schenectady County Health Department can lift the boil-water advisory.

All residents should have enough water pressure for necessary household activities, the release said. If any residents are still without water, however, they are advised to call Rotterdam police at 355-7331.

For Immediate Release:

The Town is pleased to announce the Schenectady County Department of Health has determined the Town’s water is safe to drink and the boil water advisory for the entire Town of Rotterdam has been lifted.
Town highway and water department crews are still working to repair a twenty one (21) inch broken valve on Bernard Street that failed after the water main was repaired.  This valve failure has led to a loss of water pressure in some parts of Rotterdam and too much pressure in other parts of Rotterdam.  A handful of houses in the Bernard and Wallace Street area of Rotterdam will be without water while this new repair is made next week.  The Town will advise residents of the affected homes by going to door to door with information before the valve repairs begin.

Please note the Town of Rotterdam remains under a state of emergency.  The Town is only able to operate one or two of the Town’s four water wells until the Bernard Street valve is repaired. The Town will notify news media outlets once water is fully restored to normal levels and the state of emergency has been rescinded.  Until that time, the Town has suspended Town Code Chapter 267, Water.  Residents still may not use water unnecessarily.  Use of water for nonessential purposes, such as lawn sprinkling, pools, etc. is strictly prohibited.  Burning of any kind is strictly prohibited.

We still have the best water around.  That is what makes living in the City-County of Schenectady so great.

Then work to convince the taxpayers to pay for an updated water delivery system -- and while we are digging to put in new water lines -- put a sewer system in throughout the town.

First you must convince the taxpayer to cut the police department budget and school budgets.  The taxpayers are paying enough money, it's just ending up in people's wallets and not on infrastructure.

I am in favor of consolidating ALL of the school districts and ALL of the law enforcement agencies in Schenectady County.  In fact, combining ALL of the municipalities into a single City-County. The needless duplication of administrative costs at the senior and middle management levels alone is costing us millions and is a waste of tax payer resources.  Consolidation would certainly save the taxpayers a lot of money or free it up to be invested in infrastructure improvements.

Ah yes, you are in favor of DRASTICALLY INCREASED taxes to pay for tons of ADDITIONAL school buses, the ADDITIONAL maintenance costs, the ADDITIONAL inspection costs (the state does NOT have enough bus inspectors as it is, but you want to DRASTICALLY INCREASE the number of buses and would you care to explain how they will get inspected?)  the ADDITIONAL gasoline costs, the ADDITIONAL bus drivers and their lavish pay, benefits, and pensions, the ADDITIONAL bus monitors and their lavish pay, benefits, and pensions, and huge increase in liability insurance premiums.

Ah yes, then you are obviously in favor of a DRASTIC INCREASE in police to police the neighborhoods in the towns when all the lowlife city PUNK kids come out in the towns, and either leave the school grounds during the day OR at the end of the day leave the school grounds and raise hell in the towns (instead of getting on the buses)   So ADDITIONAL police to be hired with their lavish pay, benefits, and pensions.

Impose a DRASTIC INCREASE in cost on homeowners who have septic systems because everyone will have to be on sewers.   You don't think for a moment that I want to pay for my own septic system AND be taxed extra to subsidize the non-tax deductible sewer fees in the city.

Impose a DRASTIC INCREASE in cost on homeowners to put the whole place  on public water because otherwise people with wells will have to pay for their own wells PLUS subsidize the public water of the people in the city.

Oh, how about people wait out, especially the rural areas who will have to have their taxes DRASTICALLY INCREASED to pay for the street lights in the cty???????   Yeah, the governor talking about consolidation says "one lighting district"

How about the water districts?

And trash collection

Naturally, as you are NOT a homeowner, you are NOT a taxpayer, you do NOT have a mortgage to pay, no maintenance and repair costs for a house to pay, etc etc, you have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHATSOEVER how consolidation will DRASTICALLY INCREASE taxes!!!!!

consolidation DOES NOT equate to lower taxes....PROVE IT....

it's all about the VALUE of taxes paid....the government could never run like a corporation like golub...why?
because then politicians (like Bruno) wouldn't have friends to vote for them....there are the watchers for the watchers
for the watchers etc etc....

How does that work on paper?  If you look at the behemoth federal agencies, which would be the example of large consolidated government agencies, they are riddled with waste and fraud.  There is no control and oversight.  If you can't control the RPD on a town level from blowing up the budget, how do you control a large consolidated agency from blowing up the budget?  If all the town departments have too much middle management now, and wouldn't be necessary with consolidation.  Why can't towns cut those unnecessary jobs now?

it is not the # of staff it is how they are paid and what they cost when they retire - just what justifies $100K+ police offices in a two bit town - other than a party desperate to stay elected
