SCHENECTADY—Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy announced a move to make sure all dogs in the city are licensed and vaccinated.

Beginning on June 30, officials will be going door-to-door throughout Schenectady to ensure that all pet registrations and licenses are up to date.

Dog owners without licenses will have 21 days to register their dogs before facing more serious penalties.

Last year the city conducted a similar program, but Mayor McCarthy says this year's program will cover more of the city’s neighborhoods.

I have less of a  problem with requiring dogs to be licensed, than door to door invasion of your privacy.

If a dog is found in public unlicensed, then fine the owners.

Everyone knows the searches will be performed in targeted areas, where rights are routinely trampled.

They have enough workers to do this? Can't seem to fill potholes though. Middle of June, central state area a disaster, among others.

What obligation does any city resident have to answer questions in a door to door search for your papers?

This is totally wrong.

So true.

Or they could spend the money to reduce the assessments

Or they could spent the money to bring Central Park back to being the crown jewel of the city

Or they could spend he money to enforce the violating of trash rules - codes mandate separation of trash.

Or they could spend the money to reduce taxes.

So much that could be done.

And think of this.
City worker:  Hi, do you have dogs?
Dog owner:  No

Does the dog person then enter the house and nosy through every room in the house?

Maybe the dog barks, "well, I dog sit my daughter's dog during the day while she's at work."

Maybe DV will be knocking on doors, he praises the mayor and dems for all their wild spending and mis-use of the taxpayers' money!   And he probably needs a full time job

how strange...the leadership city's getting wackier by the minute....

it costs big bucks to send workers around{gee maybe the will use SPD like the code sweep times.? 60.000 a year census takers}...income from fines will be nothing or near enough to it..the actual quality of life improvement...zero

like the dangerous dogs will just disappear from the city due to a census

and is it legal to own a pitbull, rottie....and agressive dogs???.....you can't have house insurance if you own one where I do business..''

....betcha they don't....cause' they don't bother to check their tenants ....then fine the landlord.....think that's where most of the problem would be...

and in drug infested neighborhoods......in fact....it's a waste of time to hire dog police......let the landlords be responsible....

why are they spending money like this....think they will get a million dollars.....the owners will release the dogs and claim they don't have one...

APF has many abondoned dogs...especially pitbulls....

when is the city going to get it...???????????......never.......remember  insurance companies are clamping down on owners of pitbulls, rottie...etc..

So is it SPD who will be doing this?  Instead of doing what police are supposed to be doing - addressing the crime in the city.  Oh yeah, that's right, the mayor claims owning a dog is a crime if unlicensed.  Remember, some elderly person with a blind poodle - that person is a criminal.  The elderly person probably can't afford the license fee because of paying the taxes of Galesi and the rest of the millionaire political cronies..

If it's the SPD doing this, will the city assign cops nearing retirement and pay OT to pad their pensions?

When the "census taker" comes will they be eyeing the house, looking for the tiniest smidgeon of peeling paint to slap a code violation?  Will they bring rulers with them to measure the house numbers?.

Such a misguided leadership in the city.

Dog owners ...

And what about the cats allowed to roam, never fixed, no rabies or other shots, etc.  Cats carry diseases and do destruction.

Not trying to give the lame a** mayor any ideas.   But "just sayin'"      McC used the word "vaccinated" and cats need to be vaccinated too!

They spend money like this because it makes people like YOU feel safe.  You must have had a lot of bad experiences with dogs and drugs throughout your life.

reminds me of R.Regan's "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"

NO THANKS...

So you want landlords that pay $5000 in taxes on $50k property, that rent their property to the only people that can afford the rent are in section 8, and you also want them to police what animals the tenants own?  The reason the city does it, is because if you went after the landlords to do it , you will see more exodus from the city and more abandon property.
