Bridges Out of Poverty is neither a political or partisan approach/plan to address poverty. A few short posts would not do it justice. The only thing that I can suggest -- and I do strongly suggest it -- is that people take the 2 Day Bridges Training. It is actually a lot less than $189 -- only $32. (So I think the event in Iowa was something else besides a training conference.)
If you only learn one thing from the 2 days, I hope that it would be that: It is possible for people (of all backgrounds .. ethnic, socio-economic, theology, ideology, etc.) to use what is STRONG about our community to fix/turn around what is wrong with our community.
Are your two mommies paying for you to go to Iowa?
So, tell us what is STRONG about the city (our community)??? The blight that people have to live among? The crime? The empty houses? The abandoned boarded up homes?
We all know you would say downtown is "strong," but how are the poverty wage jobs going to help people get out of poverty?
Of course, DV won't address the TRUTHS, the REAL FACTS about the community! Keep pretending not to read these posts challenging you to address everything from the falling tax base brought to the city by the dem leadership you praise to the resulting blight spreading like wildfire throughout the city. That's right DV, don't speak on the truths of the city. Keep ignoring the negative and you think it will magically disappear, right? Don't do anything about it but sweep it under the rug.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

The only strength that Schenectady has is it's $200 million dollar corporate welfare program.
You can't build on that due to vanishing taxpayers and homeowners.
If only someone could tell the politicians in Schenectady how to build a bridge over the Oak Street rail line it would be a greater accomplishment.
If only someone could get the RAILROAD to shoulder ITS share of the responsibility to replace the Oak Street Bridge. The City and County have been trying to get the RAILROAD to cooperate for years -- without any results.
Oh -- and if only the nayboobs knew the WHOLE STORY before criticizing and pointing fingers -- but that, unfortunately, is very unlikely to ever happen.
Furthermore, it is the usual nayboob m.o. to turn every thread into a diatribe on some other completely unrelated issue and a springboard to continue to spew their venomous hatred and attacks.

OH you are full of BS.
We post FACTS and invite you to engage in civilized, intelligent, adult conversation and such important issues that must be addressed in the city--such as the massively falling tax base under the current leadership--and you won't come anywhere near these discussions.
So DON'T say we spew venomous hatred or attacks!!!! Are you willing to engage in conversation about poverty in Schenectady thanks to the city/co/plex leadership making the financially struggling homeowners pay the taxes for the millionaires and billionaires downtown We are all ready, willing, and able to engage in intelligent, civilized, adult conversation based on the FACTS; are you wiling?
