NEW SCOTLAND — Last Thursday afternoon, two young men climbed onto a rock ledge on the Indian Ladder Trail, and, according to police, spray-painted graffiti on the aged structure.
Giosue Mazzone of Scotia and Kaine Caraballo of Schenectady, both 19, were seen by State Troopers from afar as they tagged the rock face with the words “Randl” and “Camp,” said Mark Cepiel, public information officer for Troop G.
“They were leaving the wall they were tagging,” as troopers approached them, he said.
The young men gave no reason for the vandalism, Cepiel said, but “they also had backpacks with more than just spraypaint cans in them. My feeling is they were hiking like everyone else,” Cepiel continued.
Mazzone and Caraballo admitted to the vandalism when speaking with the troopers, Cepiel said.
They are due to appear in New Scotland Town Court today, May 22.
