It will have apartments, an urgent care center, restaurant, and jeweler. And now, the $10 million mixed-use building at Socha Plaza on Route 50 in Scotia will also have a candy shop.
Colonie-based Krause’s Homemade Candy will open a second shop in the lobby across from Mio Vino Wine Bar and Bistro, a spokesman for the developer said Wednesday. The candy shop is slated to open in early August in a 300-square-foot space.
Customers can order chocolates here, although all the chocolates will continue to be made at Krause’s main store on Central Avenue in Colonie, and delivered fresh daily. Hours for the new store haven’t been announced.
“This is the first satellite store that we have done,” said Tom Krause, vice president, Krause’s Candy. “We thought about it in the past, but this time seems to be the perfect fit.”
Tom Krause and his wife Ann, the company’s president, are the third generation of the family to operate the candy business, which their grandfather Alfred Krause launched on Long Island and in New Jersey in 1929.
During the Depression, Tom said, people would spend their last dime on Alfred’s chocolates and other candies, convincing him that the business would weather even the toughest economic conditions.
“We’re hoping people will come to see us” at the new store, he said Wednesday afternoon. “I know we have customers out in that area already. We want to make it easier” for them to visit.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Krauses is horrible chocolate, IMHO. I prefer Uncle Sam's on albany st. Friends look forward to peanut brittle, fruit wedges and more at Christmas from us, and the people that work there are phenomenal.
Didn't a former county legislator own that place? Haven't seen him lately.
