Was wondering if those on this message board can help me understand something has been bugging me for awhile   At the County Board of Elections, there are two taxpayer funded County Election Commissioners.  Each of the individuals in these positions represents his own political party.  Mr. Quail is the Democratic Party Commissioner and Mr. Brassard is the Republican Party Commissioner.  They each have Deputies (I don't recall their names).  My concern is that with a substantial percentage of county (and town residents) who are enrolled with other minor parties or who are unaffiliated with a party, who at the Schenectady County Board of Elections represents the interests of independent candidates and their supporters?  I have heard that the two Election Commissioners are extremely partisan and have not been supportive of candidates who are not endorsed by their parties.

So, the question is, if the taxpayers who are not enrolled with one of the major political parties are funding these positions, does it amount to taxation without representation?  Things will never change in the town or county so long as the established bureacracy supports the two party system.  Are there any candidates who have run outside of the political party apparatus who can comment?  Perhaps, Mr. Koza who forced a primary some years back.

Lastly, how do we rectify this situation?  Would you pay more in taxes to support a third Election Commissioner who is not a member of a political party?

The appointment of one election commissioner from each major party is something that is defined in State Law -- Section 3-200 of the New York State Election Law, It is NOT something that can be changed at the town or county level.

The options for changing the situation are: a) petitioning the state legislature and governor to change the State law,  or  b) one of the "minor parties" would have to unseat one of the two "major parties"  (you will have to do the legal research to figure that out)  ....   I do know that having your party win 50,000 on the Gubernatorial line moves your party's status up to "authorized party"  ..beyond that it gets a bit more confusing legally.

Thank you for the explanation.  It sounds as though the two party system that controlled the state government when the law as passed did much to preserve their hold on power.  Perhaps, however, at the time most citizens belonged to one of the two major parties.  Times have changed.  I have heard that nearly 40% of the registered voters in the town are unaffiliated with a party.  That seems high to me, but would understand if it's true.

NO one represents you there. That is the answer. You are up for grabs. But think about the bright side- if the democraps had there way, there would only be ONE party represented there and everyone who was not a member of that party would be a criminal subject to rounding up and being imprisoned by the cops they control.

You nayboobs are proficient at forging, faking and otherwise lying and deceiving -- in general the criminal arts.   Your ilk wouldn't know the truth and common decency if it bit you in the a**.

My actual statement was and remains:  Mr. Brassard and Mr. Quail are both fine gentlemen, do their job well and serve the best interests of ALL of the community.

And please explain how what we post here is a forgery and a fake.   Can you provide any EVIDENCE of that statement that stuff we post is a fake and forgery/   Can you provide images of what we post and can you provide the links to what you claim is the real information?????

Well????    You are too chicken to respond to that, huh?

The nayboobs are bunch of kooks and nutburgers.  They should reopen one of those empty state prisons, lock them inside to fend for themselves and throw away the keys.

Poor DV, he just can't handle it when people speak the truth. provide facts and evidence.  Never saw someone brown nose to such an extreme.   The worse the new is, the more truths that are made known, the worse he gets.
