Liquidation sale is going to be awesome. Now the homeless have to find another place to shower or nap.

Hey, downtown Schenectady of course.   You know, that metroplex "ambassador" program.
They could shower at the taxpayer funded multimillion dollar hotel.
Heck, nap there too.
They could go to the taxpayer funded multimillion dollar beauty salon
And how about King Phillip feed then in his tax exempt taxpayer funded multimillion dollar banquet house.

Well that all will never happen

Wasn't there talk at one time of a "major" bookstore coming to downtown?

Now even Niskayuna can't keep one?

Metroplex spending is taken from Schenectady County, not just the city.

Niskayuna, Rotterdam, Scotia and Glenville have all been affected.

My Rotterdam taxes are more than double what they were in 2004.

I don't know anyone (else) who has had taxes "more than" DOUBLE in the past 10 years.  In fact, when the full valuation assessment happened (can't remember the year) - our tax BILL went DOWN by about $100.  It's since gone up, but no where near "doubled".

Any fees or changes to the property since '04?  I can see if there was a new house constructed (replacing an old one) - or significant changes to the proertyy happened, but WOW, to more than DOUBLE is crazy.  There's got to be more to the story.

Mine went up nearly 50% since 2006.  No added square footage no new construction.

That was about when the new 100% valuation went into effect, if memory serves me correctly.

I paid $27,000 for my home in the 70's.  I bought it from Tony Famiano.

My taxes never exceeded $1,700 for the combined taxes until my home was reassessed at $138,000.

My taxes are now  approx. $3,500.

I would sell in a minute if I could get 75% of the assessed value.

ROTTENdam has NOT added any services in at least a decade.
And yet taxes have increased at an alarming rate!!
Guess somebodys gotta pay for wages and lifetime benefits for the cops and 'the friends and family' club.

Eunie was aol for ...what?.....a year? And still got full wages and benefits.
How many weeks paid vacation do the cops get a year?

Taxes are more manipulated administrative costs.....than the cost of services for the taxpayer's.

Our 2013 Property taxes were $1127 .. that hasn't changed significantly (give or take $100) in a couple years.

First, your home was probably way undervalued when you purchased it and wasn't being taxed the same as the newly sold properties in the town after the reassesment.

Second, "Combined" taxes .. yes, School goes up because numbnut people keep voting YES to everything Mohonasen and Schalmont want.  It's time to stand up to the school districts and end their insane spending spree.

We're appraised similarly, I think mine is in the 135-145k range also .. it's a 3br cape, bath and a half.

In reality, after the full value reassessment was completed, the "old" section of Rotterdam fared pretty well. I have yet to speak to a homeowner in that section that either didn't have their taxes reduced or at the very most, go up slightly. Mine went down about $100 and my taxes are in the range of yours as my house is assessed at $141,900.

The people that got soaked were pretty much anyone who had their house built after about 1978 or so...
