Sanfordy- It has everything to do with conversation. Like Democratic Voice said everyone on here thinks they can do a better job.

everything? how so....im sorry but not one person on this thread said they can do a better job...its about using all the different agency's to get a few code violations on the albany street stores is a waste of resources and selective enforcement...

So if you think it's a waste of resources for a "few" code violations you obviously think that if you were the mayor you could do a better job and get more violations and more crime. So why don't you just run for mayor or become a cop. Maybe crime will be scared of you and run away.

Maybe if taxes and fees weren't so high people would have some extra money to fix the code violations without being forced to do so by the police and code enforcement.

cops are NOT needed for code violations. There are already paid folks who's responsibility it is to do THEIR job!!

cops are needed for 'criminal activity'.........who's responsibility it is to do THEIR job!!!

If cops where there snooping around private property for suspected criminal activity....they better have had a warrant!!

AGAIN................WHO'S COMPLAINING ABOUT THESE PLACES.......NEIGHBORS? WHERE DID THE COMPLAINTS COME FROM? WHAT CONSTITUTES A BUSINESS BEING AN 'ASSET TO THE COMMUNITY'?

Schenectady does have foot/bike patrols. Unfortunately they cannot have a lot of officers doing foot patrol as it is not practical. What happens when there is a major call on the other side of the city? There is no way cops on foot patrol could get to calls quickly and efficiently. And if you people haven't noticed most of the crime in Schenectady occurs near or in those little for corners stores. You don't hear about crime happening in the businesses downtown.

yes, and unfortunately the rest of the crimes happen in the public school buildings/properties

what a utopia

Isn't this a good thing because starting with small quality of life things helps improve everything?  This is a start?

Wowwww. I love your smart comments. I WILL REPEAT: Schenectady does have a foot/bike patrol detail. I listen to them on the scanner every day and see them downtown everyday

If thee is no crime downtown why have foot/bike patrols there?

As for calling police had a guy a few years back trying to bust into our front door, took my elderly mom, my three kids and I  to hold the door shut.
called police immediately waited 10 minutes nothing, called again waited 10 minutes nothing, guy still trying to get in, he finally left police showed up
a half hour after original call. Serve and protect lol HAHAHHAHAHA

As for me being mayor one day instead of doing photo ops and raiding stores I'd get on the employess as*es, I''d tell codes do your job, I'd tell police
do your job. There is a huge line of codes cars parked around city hall all hours of the day, let THEM handle codes violations. The problem with SOME of the smaller stores is loitering, that is a police issue, instead of them turning a blind eye let them finally start ENFORCING laws already on the books.

As for the waste collection, let them finish their routes early but make them work a full day, they can do litter cleanup etc till their shift ends.

There is a huge waste of money with lax employess that have gotten away with it for years. If they worked for a private company a lot
of these employees would be out of a job, it isn't put up with.

But what does the major care? It's the homeowners paying the salaries.

Yeah, it's called receiving city services for free...I believe cops would call that GRAND LARCENY.

Glad you think the police department's don't do anything Bet your opinion would change real fast if it was your house that was broken into, or your family that got shot, or someone rear-ended you and took off. The next time you need a cop, don't call and waste their time. They can go help someone who actually wants their help.

Try filing a break in, vandalism, etc in the city ... you file your report by PHONE.  You never see an officer unless there's an injury or shooting.  They don't show up to MOST "fender benders" or "rear-ends" unless there's injuries.

RP- dont you live very close to a nice neighborhood ' bodega ' ? right there on Schenectady st and Van Vost ? how is that little store ? is it an asset to the community ?

Do you go in there much to pick up something once in a while - milk cheese , butter sugar ?  Do you see familiar faces hanging around outside everyday?

Everything must seem fine . You haven't said a word.

Start to what? Shrinking the small businesses that exist in Schenectady? Crime takes place in neighboorhoods. Drug houses occupied by TENANTS!  McThug has managed to successfully ruined Schenectady housing market by chasing all the real estate investors out of town. But the biggest real estate investor (GALESI) has managed to chase McThug right in to his wallet!

Yes...familiar faces is enough probable cause to harass business owners.  There are no crimes being committed, so they use code violations.

Who determines what is or isn't an "asset to the community"?

.

ARE YOU SERIOUS????? There is not a 'familiar face' ANYWHERE!!! Go to any Price Chopper, Hannaford, Shoprite, Walmart, Target, Kmart and not only is there not one familiar face....most don't even speak English!! And they are 'hanging around' outside these establishments as well.

As far as the small 'convenient stores' and/or gas stations.....it is no different.

And this encompasses ALL of Schenectady County.

I thought this was covered under the PC words TOLERANCE and DIVERSIFIED.....no?

It appears that the white powers that be need to practice what they preach and become more TOLERANT with DIVERSITY......yes?

Tolerance and Diversity was suppose to enhance the 'assets to our communities'!

Free market and self correction is an unknown subject in Schenectady.

Micromanagement and redistribution of wealth rules here.
