The state budget deal includes a tax credit for touring stage productions that hold their technical rehearsals in New York State — a big win for the
“Thruway Theaters” upstate that argue that these residencies pump millions of dollars in economic activity into the communities that host them.

The credit is a big win for Philip Morris, CEO of Proctors in Schenectady, as well as the lawmakers who championed the concept: Democratic Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, whose district includes Proctors, and state Sen. Betty Little, who chairs the chamber’s tourism committee.

The 25 percent tax credit for qualified expenses incurred by these touring companies will be capped at $4 million per year. It goes into effect next year.

In a recent press conference to push for the credit, the Broadway League noted that states such as Rhode Island and Louisiana have been using tax credits to attract this type of industry for years.

Proctors hosted the tech rehearsal for “Ghost: The Musical” last fall. Other upstate theaters that could benefit from the credit include the Stanley Center
for the Arts in Utica, the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse, the Auditorium Theatre in Rochester, and Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo.

“New York Now” examined the tax credit in a story that aired a few weeks ago; the report starts just after the 13-minute mark:

"According to The Broadway League, which represents theatres and producers throughout the country, Broadway—in New York City alone—generates $11.2 billion of economic activity annually and supports 86,000 jobs. Touring Broadway is also important to the state’s economy. As an example, one year of touring Broadway at Proctors in Schenectady generates over $30 million of economic boost—a financial bump mirrored in markets like Buffalo, Rochester and Utica."

Where do they make up these numbers???

How many jobs does Proctors support? Or, how much do volunteers have to pay Proctors for their free services.....

This is awesome news.  I have been saying for several months now that there are a lot more positive announcements about Schenectady's future coming.

Last week, we learned -what many of us always knew - Schenectady is a world class destination when it comes to innovation and technology.  The Sunday newspaper had a wonderful story telling us - what many of us always knew - Schenectady is world class destination luring old and young alike to live here.  Downtown is THE place to open a business and, also, to live.

Proctors and the City-County of Schenectady are certainly world class when it comes to the Arts -- we have known that for years.  This just adds a bit more shine to the bright radiance of the City-County of Schenectady's Renaissance.

Stay tuned.  The City-County of Schenectady will be rolling out the red carpet for a number of exciting new developments.  Viva la Renaissance!

World class destination????

DV, where?    Virtually no one is moving into the city!   Do you see the increasing numbers of homes put up for sale because people are fleeing the city?   Have you seen how many houses that are on the market are empty -- because the people who lived in them fled the city.

A "destination" ????    Have you seen how many houses sit on the market for sale for a year, two years or more?  Obviously you don't avoid looking at my posts with the tables of the houses for sale which shows how long they have been for sale, how many price reductions have occurred, and how many people have just given up.

A "destination" ??????     Then, please DV, if it was a world class destination, then explain how there are record high, and increasing every hear, numbers of tax foreclosures????

Why are property values tumbling?

Why is the tax base falling?

Why is Galesi REFUSING to live in the city, and not even in the county?

Why does Galesi's CEO avoid living anywhere in Schdy county?????

Why doesn't King Philip live IN the city?

After getting ton of taxpayers' money to move a couple hundred feet, have a brand new building built for you at taxpayer expense, and then being 100% exempt from paying property and school taxes, why doe the owner of Marcella's REFUSE to live in the city?

After getting ton of taxpayers' money to move a few miles, have a brand new building built for you at taxpayer expense, and then being 100% exempt from paying property and school taxes, why doe the Mallozzi REFUSE to live in the city?

Why do you REFUSE to buy a house IN the city?????

Why do you REFUSE AT ANY COST to even rent IN the city????????

Proof that you are WRONG is the FACT that you REFUSE to move INTO the city ????

Wow, maybe with this grant, Proctors can get the disgusting, moldy water fountains throughout the theater fixed or removed.

Maybe a decent sound system?

Oh wait...look at the ceiling.... that cost taxpayers millions.

Guess it's hard to upkeep a theater when you're paying former Schenectady finance employees, former mayor Karen Johnson and wanna' be mayor Peerazo top dollar.

Nah... certainly not a conflict of interest....

I am beginning to think that dvor's posts are all TIC!
REALLY!!
I think dvor is just stirring the pot.....for fun so to say.
Cause anyone with a half a brain knows the city is in a downward spiral and is a mess.
And I think dvor does too.
If dvor is a Christian as dvor professes than dvor would/should have compassion and understanding for the struggling home owners instead of applauding the rich and the powers that be that are making life unbearable for them.

You folks are just playing into dvor's hand.

You get sick when you hear good news about Schenectady?

Ah, that is your April Fool's joke??????

Let's see, good news bout Schenectady:

MASSIVE reduction in the tax base
Massively falling property values
Equalization rate sky-rocketing
Home sales falling
Home sale prices falling
People can't sell their houses
People are leaving the city and trying to sell their houses empty
Houses are listed for 1, 2 years are more and don't sell
Homes way over-assessed and the city leadership refuse to reassess DOWN to 100% of market value
Cost of taxes going up
Cost of fees going up
New fees created
Newly created fees get increased multiple times
Central Park ignored
Snow emergency plowing no longer declared
Essential services in the neighborhoods are eliminated in favor of lavishing services upon tax exempt millionaires who don't live in the city
Number of vacant properties increasing
MASSIVE increase in tax foreclosures due to inability of financially struggling homeowners to pay the taxes of downtown millionaires
Even more increase in vacant properties in the city (due to foreclosures)
No one wanting to buy foreclosed homes.
Increase in abandoned properties in the city.
More reduction in property values due to vacant, abandoned houses and the blight that accompanies them.

Of course, DV will NOT address the FACTS.   He will NEVER RESPOND and post on these FACTS.
