There is a very minimal tax break for volunteers with a very sad retirement. Overall every firefighter in Rotterdam is volunteer. If you think that a small tax break and a small retirement is good enough for the work they do and the risks they take, I again ask that you go volunteer a little bit of your time and then let me know if you still feel the same way. And tax money these days does not go very far. I agree our fire taxes are way too high, but those taxes are necessary for the preservation of life. Unfortunately times are rough and equipment is over priced. Tax money alone cannot cover everything.
First....we agree that they DO get paid!!! Second.....perhaps our family members/friends ARE already 'paid volunteers'. Third.....tax $$ doesn't go very far...but who do you think has newer fire trucks/equipment......volunteer fire fighters.....or those paid in the city of Schenectady. Check their equipment.....k?

" They are still desperate for people. If you listen to the fire radio trucks are calling out with 3 guys for a house fire. I hope you never have to live it personally but it's a horrible feeling to watch your house burn and the fire dept can't do anything because they don't have enough VOLUNTEERS.
