) I am PROUD to be a SCHENECTADIAN and very pleased with the positive direction in which it is now heading.
So proud to be a Schenectadian that you, at all cost avoid living IN the city.
You will not buy a house IN the city. Proof positive that the taxes are way too high and it's is very costly to live IN the city.
YOU WO'T EVEN RENT IN THE CITY!!!!!!!! Once gain, rents are high because owners are heavily burdened by taxes so you won't even rent.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

The announcement that Quirky is coming to Schenectady is just the first of a number of exciting new announcements that will be made in the coming weeks and months. The City-County of Schenectady is a great place to live in and do business -- and the best is yet to come. I am proud to be a Schenectadian.

"$15 million just in PILOTS to local government -- EVERY YEAR", while spending over $20 million is an outright loss of gross revenue.
L4L, one need not be a bookkeeper, one need not even be a CPA to understand what you wrote.
Obviously DV never passed even a grade school math class.
DV, go ask your two mommies to give you the answer to this math equation and then come back here post the answer, can you do that?:
$ 15,000,000 - $ 20,000,000
? ? ?
Now, take into account the FACT that sales tax revenue--in Schenectady Co--is FALLING - uh, DV, that means the amount is going down i.e., less revenue.
Now, take into account the FACT that the people employed in any good paying jobs downtown (like the state jobs) the income from those jobs is NOT benefitting the city -- those incomes are NOT generating property and school tax revenue for the city and very often not even in the county! These people are NOT buying houses IN the city in which to live.
Now, take into account the FACT that the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of jobs downtown are low wage/minimum wage jobs (dishwashers maids, hair dressers, pizza makers, ticket takers, popcorn sellers, and FACT is that the income from those jobs is NOT being spent in the city, the people do NOT buy lunch, breakfast or dinner downtown because they cannot afford it! Their meals come from food stamps which is paid for by the taxpayers (your lack of acknowledgement about the FACT proves that you are NOT a taxpayer)
Now take into account the FACT that incomes from the good paying jobs is NOT being spent buying cars because there is NO PLACE in the city to buy a NEW car! The tax revenue from purchase of a NEW car benefits other counties, there are few places even within Schenectady Co to buy a NEW car. Purchase of clothing, toys, electronics and music/DVD's is NOT being spent IN the city because there ARE NO STORES!!!!!!!!!!! SOME people might buy in Glenville, Nisky, and Rotterdam Malls but there are few places to shop even there and the FACT is that SALES TAX IN SCHENECTADY COUNTY IS REGULARLY GOING DOWN while sales tax revenue in all the surrounding counties is increasing!!
And take into account the FACT of the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of tax dollars spent on downtown, that even makes the negative effect a huge great big NEGATIVE EFFECTI.
Not to mention the FACT of all the other NEGATIVE effects such as massively falling tax base, drastically falling property values (you have no understanding of equalization rate), falling home sales, the huge increase in the time it takes to sell a house- like over a year in many cases (which means the seller often has two mortgages) falling home sale prices, being underwater on one's mortgagee from a purchase of a home in the city, increased vacant housing, the building of more unnecessary rental units which will be tax exempt and won't have tenants because there is an exiting high rate of vacancy, increased blight, decreasing city services, elimination of Central Park, inadequate snow plowing, increased taxes, increased fee costs, creation of ne fees followed by annual increase in those new fees.
Yes DV, the FACT is you have no clue whatsoever about household budgets, finances, economics, property values, and taxes. You prove that by the FACT that you refuse to provide any EVIDENCE of the statements you make.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Yep, shake those pom poms.
A million dollars for renovating one floor of a building owned by a multi-BILLIONAIRE that does NOT pay property or school taxes
This will create 180 mostly LOW WAGE jobs for which the employees will have to be subsidized by the taxpayers! (food stamps, Medicaid, HEAP, WIC, EITC)
ROFL. DV, you have been using that "bets is yet to come" for several years now and over all that time the following has occurr3ed: - Tax based falling - Property values falling - Home sales falling - Home sale prices falling - Sales tax revenue falling - Essential services cut - Tax BILLS increasing - Fees increasing - New fees created - Those new fees created -- those fees have increased. - Taxpaying businesses closing - Commercial property vacancies increasing - Residential units vacancies increasing - Blight increasing - Tax foreclosures increasing - Expenses of the city increasing due to responsibility for maintaining the foreclosed properties
You keep saying the best is yet to some, and every year it gets worse and worse.

Not defending Metrograft here - but it is highly unlikely Quirky is only going to have call center reps here.
GE invested $30MM in them late last year, and is partnering with them in a number of areas.
Considering GE's research division (GRC) is in Niskayuna, CS only jobs here would make little sense.
As mentioned, production is not in the U.S.
Did you see the list of jobs? Nothing but call center in Schenectady and a paper pushing HR "manager" here. Not even GED required.
They're good paying professional jobs are in NYC, west coast.

Quirky and Mexican Restaurant are leading the way for other out of town investors who see the City-County of Schenectady heading in the right direction and perfectly positioned to take advantage of the Tech Valley boom that will draw new businesses and new people into our area. With well established icons like GE, Proctors and Union College within walking distance and everything that upstate New York has to offer easily accessible -- and with the coming 2nd train line and high speed train -- hold your hats -- the City-County of Schenectady is ready for take-off.

Yes I saw them the day they went up... I had looked the previous day, nothing there, then the next day they were up.
I stand by my assessment. It is highly unlikely they would situate something that is only a call center so close to GRC. It certainly is possible though.
