A senior we know called Schenectady to apply for section 8. They told this person that they will not accept any section 8 applications until 2017!!!

They said they are FULL and have a 3 year back log of follks waiting.

Schenectady County is the welfare haven and Capital of NYS.  I bet that all of these welfare hogs vote Democrats each and every election cycle. Got news for you welfare hogs there is no housing available in Schenectady for you go and thank your Mayor McThug for running all the landlords out of business. You will never get a apartment to rent to live in Schenectady until you vote for a Republican Mayor who will bring back landlords to Schenectady. Soon there will be more vacant houses than occupied houses in Schenectady! Thanks to McThug and his "working together team" to screw the people of SCHENECTADY to give to their ultra rich downtown developer friends.

The 'senior' told me that ALL municipal housing, low income apts, senior apts were FULL and the list is a mile long!!! Now...not all of these folks are slugs on welfare. We just find it so bizarre that there are so many folks on section 8 and a list that is years behind waiting in the wings.

This should be an obvious clue to McMayor that there is not enough working folks to pay for all of these needy folks. (how 'bout taxing the tax exempt businesses?)If he was a visionary....he and the past powers that be/been should have seen this coming. Now they got the boomers coming up and where they gonna put them?

The city is a welfare city and it looks it!!!

What a mess!!

Oh wow, this must be the evidence that explains DV's claim that the city is improving -- it is reflective of people wanting to move into the city?

Schenectady is an attraction for welfare.

instead of bldg high end apts....we need more senior apts in this county......

for those who sell their home and downsize.......where are they going to go....the heck with sect 8....

if they checked all those applying for sect 8...they would find many who really don't qualify.....or use sect 8

to have other members live there for free.....that's welfare and what's wrong....no checking up once

they have it.....and who are the occupants ......

If people in Schenectady who sell their homes are smart they would move to a tax friendly state like Florida.

Yea Florida in the winter is a nice change for Northerners...
In the Summer, Florida is hell!

From a Florida blog:
Quoted Text
"Summer in my neck of the woods (southwest Florida) is stiflingly hot and humid.
It's the season I dread the most,
as we are actually inside more than out.
It's buggy and moist,
too hot to garden,
too hot to picnic,
too hot to do many of the things that I enjoy most."

For many, Florida in summer is spent indoors or in your car...
much like Winter in the North.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

agree...florida SUCKS in the summer.....yuck!

why can't people afford housing in nys? I think it's a bit more than the offering of section 8. Like food stamps...why should
someone need food stamps? why is FOOD that expensive?

I get capitalism I really do...but folks need to realize they need to use their own fishing pole AND anger to blow up the system.

WE ARE OVER LEVERAGED.....STILL.....what's the value of a $10 minimum wage? SH!T!!!!!

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Its not surprising it is 2017 and the list to get into a MHA property is very long

Daily Gazette 9/17/13
"Schenectady’s $9 million Section 8 program has weathered a series of budget cuts over the past three years, which has resulted in layoffs and even longer waits for applicants.

....Gorritz moved to Schenectady from New York City because she said she couldn’t get housing assistance there. She has also tried Connecticut with no luck.

“This was the only place that has offered the help,” she said.

In addition to Section 8 housing, low-income Schenectady residents have access to public housing owned by the housing authority, but the 1,000 residences in Ten Eyck Apartments, Schonowee Village and Lincoln Heights are full, and there’s an extensive waiting list for them."

Where's the endless line of Schenectady homeowners and taxpayers who are forced from their residences due to the inflated assessments and skyrocketing property and school taxes??

Pathetic how the City rolls out a red carpet for those searching for the easiest welfare benefits at the price of bankrupting their taxpayers.

Fastest way to drill your City into the ground.... decimate the taxbase and import every free-loader from the east coast.
