Apparently, when a Superintendent states that a $70 million dollar project won't cost the taxpayers anything... sheeple believe him.
Can't wait until out-of-pocket funds for permits, inspectors and other mandatory provisions are needed. Where's that money going to come from????
Are people so stupid that they believe something too good to be true???
Incredible....simply incredible.....
Any REASONABLE person knows, if they reopen schools, there will be expenses like educators, administrators, utilities, pensions, security and more. You're being unreasonable if you believe otherwise.
Use some common sense people. The projects won't cost us anything - it's the upkeep of the projects, future repairs, etc.
Pay your fair share and quit whining about it.

"The projects won't cost us anything" in the land of rainbows and unicorns. If you really believe that I have a bridge in good condition for sale.
Oh ya? which one? I don't remember ANY bridges in NY that are in "good" condition. From the Tappan Zee to the Mohawk, they're all crappy - and the lawmakers in Albany refuse to address the problem, or FUND the problem.

BEST SOLUTION IS TO CLOSE THE SCHOOLS AND LAYOFF THE TEACHERS! STOP TAXING THE ALREADY POOR PROPERTY TAX PAYERS!
The BEST solution is to a) consolidate school districts - Schenectady County doesn't need 6 school districts .. 1 school district would do and then we could more cost effectively utilize the existing classroom space without having to build new buildings in some district when the neighboring districts are closing school buildings b) end the reliance on local property taxes to fund public schools and provide equal state funding (from the income tax) to students all across the state. The days of giving megamillions in state aid to rich suburban school districts while sending peanuts to inner city school districts has to end.

Like usual you always provide a solution that is never possible.

BOTH suggestions are very possible. There legal procedures in place to accomplish both. All that is necessary now is for our local and state political leaders to JUST DO IT.

I'm glad there is talk about this, consolidating the districts, I know the governor has some kind of thing not to give tax rebates if the districts don't consolidate. My sister and brother-in-law and I have been talking in the past week or so because of the our vote yesterday and we were talking about how would they consolidate. How would they divide up the schools because they couldn't keep all the same ones open right? Would the students just keep going to the same schools do you think? Or could they use Schenectady H.S. for 12th grade and maybe Niskayuna for 11the grade, and so on?
Usually consolidation occurs in smaller schools (Berne/Perth) where school population isn't enough to fill a building....the consolidation benefits both smaller schools.
How did it work when the Schenectady City School District 'consolidated' their high schools. Now there is one HUGE failing high school.
How about when they 'consolidated' by closing Oneida Middle School? There are neighborhood street fights at MP Middle School and overcrowding.
Want to help Schenectady? Make is a Union-Free School District. There would be millions more for the students rather than the millions for health care/retirement/ and other benefits afforded to teachers/admin/ janitorial staff.
The district doesn't need consolidation...it needs an exorcism.
Realistically any savings, consolidations, etc. won't matter in lowering taxes. Just allows the savings to be spent elsewhere (more patronage hires and more votes). Shell game. Theres always a slot for any extra $$$ except to lower taxes substancially. Even the Mayor of Albany stated when asked about the possible casino $$$ lowering Albany taxes, said the casino income would only SLOW the tax increases. They never go down except for the token reduction at election time.

And DV, since you are NOT a taxpayer, never have been a taxpayer, never have been a parent who has to be concerned about the schools your children will attend, you have no idea about the FACTS.
Why do you refuse to coment on the DRASTIC INCREASE that consolidation of schools will result in when students are bussed from one end of the county to another? That will mean the purchase of more buses, hiring more drivers, more mechanics, more gas used which means higher prices' with buses driving all over the county there will be much more wear and tear on them which means for more maintenance costs, and also much much higher insurance costs, that is just to name a FEW cost increases.
But then, what should we expect from someone who is not a self sufficient normal adult, doesn't pay rent to a landlord nor a mortgage nor taxes and isn't affected by the insurance and maintenance costs when he runs around in mommies' car(s).

Schenectady High School has many great teachers and students. Kudos to the team from Schenectady High that participated in the NASA tech competition. Sad to say that the Daily Rag buried the story deep in the newspaper. About the only thing that "newspaper" is good for is to wrap up a smelly nayboob and throw him/her in the trash.

Do you or anyone know who that would work best?
