Vince Riggi was saying during the comment part that "they" are looking at doing a reassessment. Of course there is an issue of funding it. Naturally the dems will say there's no money for it in the budget when the time comes to really make the decision to do one or not.
Of course, there is money for the millionaire downtown, the cronies of the mayor and council, but the city struggles to find money for an ESSENTIAL SERVICE to the residents/taxpayers.
Of course, some posters on these boards, speaking as themselves and their friends, will say something about ths are merely "nayboobs" and "being negative." However anyone with intelligence knows that BS (just like the former mayor full of it). Rather these are FACTS, that ESSENTIAL SERVICES to the taxpayers in the form of keeping assessments values up to date ns been a service that has been cut in favor of NON-ESSENTIAL giveaways to downtown.
We are not "being negative" bur rather stating FACTS, stating TRUTHS, and while we have seen the EVIDENCE and obviously thanks to the one council rep on the city council who is the ONLY TRUE representative of the residents and taxpayers--Vince Riggi-his fellow council people are getting backed up against a wall so to9 speak in that with all the certiorari suits and all the evidence of massive reductions in home values, the city has no choice but to reassess.
It is absolutely essential that the city stop spending the taxpayers money on non-essential things such as the stupid "fancy lighting" on Erie Blvd., and instead spend the money on ESSENTIAL SERVICES to the taxapeyrs and do a reassessment.
But the end result will be that today a house that is assessed for, say $120,000 may have total combined annual tax bill of maybe $7,000. When the reassessment is done, maybe the house will be reduced to an assessed value of say $80,000, or $70,000. After reassessment the tax bill on the house will remain the same because the tax RATE will go up. And that is really going to show how bad the city is, when you have a house worth $70,000 with a tax bill of $7,000 while in Clifton park perhaps, a house worth $250,000 might have a tax bill of $7,000. And all that will reflect very negatively on the mayor's false claim that you get more house in Schenectady for the price.
But you notice neither the mayor nor the dems on the council will admit that things are getting worse in the city.
Harry Brand was wonderful tonight by the way.

we didn't see the meeting but 1300 radio gave the update.
I guess they brought up the issue of stores selling 'loosies'....one cigarette at a time.
As vandenburg pointed out............that is already a law. |

http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Mayor-moves-to-ban-loosies-5264187.phpMcCarthy hopes that banning the sale of loosies coupled with his efforts to force merchants to comply with city laws will attract more homeowners to the Electric City. Dear, you didn't double check that subject line. He read it to me, but I said no, that "Not a nayboob opinion......"
But actually besides those stores Vince was brilliant commenting during the vote for a council member about what HYPOCRITES the council members are in that two years ago they said one thing about the fourth highest vote getter - as chosen by the people should be appointed, But this year, the DEMS on the council refused to appoint the fourth highest vote getter as chosen by the people!
Yep, "the mayor and his dem team are doing a wonderful job in the city" as DV claims --- dems DENYING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
Harry Brand must be visiting these boards. he spoke about how filthy rich Galesi I and basically questioned why the people have to pay for all his stuff.
Of course, NEVER NEVER a response from the council nor the mayor. The dems will NEVER explain why the financially struggling homeowners have to pay for Galesi

McCarthy is going after absentee landlords majority of them Guyanese, now neighboorhood stores, dog owners, now cigarette buyers are his targets??? Does this make any sense to alienate all of the residents and tax payers of Schenectady and a handful of cronies are protected because they finance the Democratic party campaigns. Voters change is coming in 2015! |

The entire capital region knows how bad Schenectady needs a new assessment, McCheese must think that these people can't read and do math. How much did Marie Antoinette give away to a wealthy crony to demolish a building with some architectural distinction, a building nobody made him buy? I am getting more than a little sick of the "no money" excuse. On the topic of 'loosies', it may bother the tax department, but it doesn't bother me. For one thing, it cuts down on smoking, which is supposed to be a good thing. People who buy cigs by the carton smoke a whole lot. Another thing, in some areas, it is considered the polite thing, when you have a whole pack of cigarettes, to give one to anybody who asks you for one. People who buy them one at a time get to smoke every cigarette they pay for, which is cheaper in the long run. I don't care for people hanging around convenience stores at all hours myself, but welcome to the world of unemployment/part time employment. People who have full time, good paying jobs aren't hanging around at all hours. Where are all the jobs 'created' with our money? |

McCarthy and the dems on the council are CLUELESS. They have no intelligence whatsoever. The FACT is the reason houses are not selling is because the dems are forcing all the financially struggling homeowners to pay for their own taxes PLUS the taxes of the downtown millionaire political cronies of the dems - and that is a FACT totally UNDISPUTABLE, and I DEFY any cheerleaders of McC and his dem council to provide one teeny weeny shred of evidence to the contrary on this board. |

How about forcing the city to comply with city laws? Honestly, I really cannot get my head around it - if he wants to "attract" homeowners, why does he keep driving them away? What is he thinking? I notice he seems to have backed off a bit - now he and "key officials" are meeting with store owners to "discuss ways the city can aid them". I guess that idea of barging in with his mostly non-resident henchmen, and harrassing business owners didn't fly too well. |

re-assessment should cost $0(zero) - the assessor needs to do his/her job and re-assess 1/6 of all the properties in the city each year as directed by NYS real property tax dept |
