Anyway. Back to the actual topic of the thread. PRIOR to the sale of the mall late last year, there were any number of statements and any number of rumors by a number of people (business owners, residents, etc.) regarding the future of particular businesses and the mall itself. SINCE the sale of the mall, I think the only thing that can be said with reasonable assurance is that the mall is in the hands of a new owner who probably intends to hold on to the property for a number of years and has hired a local firm to assist in the marketing/arranging of leases for mall space. There really hasn't been anything specific or even broadly conceptual put forth by the owner in regards to any major - or even minor - changes of the mall as its exists today. I think that the fact that the mall is under new ownership at least gives current business owners (within the mall) some sense of confidence. The original post that started this thread asked about the K-Mart -- and that question really can't be answered with any clarity. K-Mart has been slowly closing various stores across the country and across this region. The good news is that the Rotterdam store has survived each of these waves of closures. The bad news is that K-mart, as a whole, is not doing any better. Therefore, one really must conclude that the K-Mart store's (in Rotterdam Square Mall) future is a uncertain.
