Good idea. Kind of a clearinghouse for the whole area. I strongly believe that local governments have got to be taken away from the idea that they can just take our high tax dollars and then turn around and stint on services that are so essential for public health and safety. The "no money" excuse is a blanket excuse, and it is high time they stopped getting away with it. Constant carpers, carp away! You may just be saving someone's life. Seriously. I have seen some streets, well after the storm, where the paramedics or even an ambulance would not be able to reach some houses, except on foot. |

talked with some co-workers who live in the city........they said they will ALWAYS park on the street. This stops the plows from dropping snow on their sidewalks.....hence...no shoveling. these same folks are grateful that the city never declares a 'state of emergency'. they also said that the mailmen are having a hell of a time delivering mail. they said there are properties that have NEVER shoveled this winter. mailmen have held some folks mail for over 3 weeks....and these folks could care less!! ya can't make this stuff up!! |

I got stuck behind a milk delivery truck yesterday. It was over near the hospital and the truck didn't have room to make the corner because of how narrow the streets are. He got hung up on a bank and couldn't move. |

The only resolve would be for the city to declare a state of emergency where ALL cars have to be off the road.
if that ever happened....the tow-company businesses would be the winners. |

Some cities don't allow ANY cars parked on city streets between 11pm and 6am, in winter, to allow snowplows to quickly and efficiently plow the streets. |

Just enforce the posted rules, it will work just fine. McCheese thinks it slows things down? Any slower than what we have today, waiting for it to melt? Why does everything in Schenectady have to be BS and blather? |

I noticed several winters back, after a really big storm, along Union Avenue on the college side the snow had been removed all the way to the curb, so that people could park their cars there. That was the only place in the city I saw that done, so I don't know if the college got preferential service or if they got fed up and did it themselves. I think some of the equipment the city used to have may have broken down and never been replaced. If we don't own the proper equipment to do the job any more, the city should rent it or hire some firm to come in and do the job. The "no money" excuse is BS. Does anyone else notice that the most legitimate functions of city government, and the most important uses of our tax dollars are the very ones the city tries to short us on? |

I watched the committee meeting last night from the other day and they were talking about giving out fines to those who don't shovel their sidewalks. They are thinking of maybe having the SNAP crews take pictures of sidewalks not done. The house next door to me owned by the city has not been touched (shoveled or snowplowed) since the storm. Double standard? |

AMEN to that. Take a photo of the house next door to you, speak at POF and reference what was said at the committee meeting. People in the city really need to start making noise and calling the city IN PUBLIC on their hypocrisy. How about a letter to the opinion section to tne newspapers, "Oh __ date, so and so stated the city will take photos...... charge owners......" and the letter should encourage every reader to take photos of properties owned by the city that are not shoveled. Problem is that peopletalk to their spouses and neighbors and that's as far as it goes. There are so many good questions that have been raised on these boards but the comments/questions go no further. But then the questions raised stay on these boards and go no further. City residents who frequent these boards need to stop being so quiet. These boards are kind of like the secret gathering of dem party or dem council people where discussions are held and what is said here remains here, like their secrets. I have a hunch that the frequent speakers at the council, that Harry Brand, Mary McClaine, and there's another guy I think he has an Italian last name and I keep wanting to say Bunome but I think that's wrong (I think that's the name of some guy that talks on Paul's show that has something to do with racing), these three people probably have don't know all the information we talk about. You could say to one of them "did you know that....." and they'd probably say "no" like it's news to them. Shovel your sidewalk and take a photo of it yourself. If they cite you, you can prove it was shoveled. |
