NYC wants to dump Upstate!
Quoted Text
"Not only is it about self-determination and self-rule, but it's about fairness," Mr. Vallone said. "It's something we see every year in the budget. They (Upstate) take $11 billion from us and give us back a mere pittance and they make it seem like they're doing us a favor to give that pittance back. Somehow they missed the point that that is New York City's own tax money and we deserve it."
Quoted Text
Mr. Vallone said that the city would operate more effectively on its own. "It would be much, much simpler to be able to govern 8.5 million people without having to ask legislators who represent villages on the Canadian border for permission before we do anything," Mr. Vallone said.

In fiscal 2010, the Upstate region generated less than 28 percent of the state’s taxes and other non-federal revenues (including SUNY tuition, lottery and other gambling profits, motor vehicle fees and so on). By contrast, Upstate received a much larger share of state-funded expenditures, 42 percent.
We produce 28% of the revenue, and get back 42% in NY State funds. Lets hope that NYC doesn't say "screw em" to upstate! |

In 2010, Cuomo won by a 2-to-1 margin statewide. In Upstate, Cuomo won by about 500,000 votes out of more than 3 million cast. All told, he lost only 13 of the state's 62 counties. Upstate would likely vote for Cuomo again. |

But box NYC is going to be under water soon according to you global warming fear mongers, shouldn't we cut them of now or work to not rely on their tax base? |

I guess you haven't read about Cuomo's plan to give college degrees to convicts with our tax dollars, this while so many New Yorkers can't afford college or are racked with debt. Cuomo is getting hammered from all sides with this one, I expect his approval rating to drop like a stone because of this. |

Oh Henry, you struck out again -
Quoted Text
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s approval rating among voters statewide remains high at 63%, according to the results of a Quinnipiac University poll due to be published Thursday.
Voters gave Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat facing re-election this year, virtually the same marks on his job as governor as they did in November, when 62% approved of his performance, according to the poll.
In New York City, Thursday’s poll found, Mr. Cuomo’s approval rating was 72%, while upstate it was 55%.
In hypothetical match-ups against potential Republican gubernatorial candidates, Mr. Cuomo emerged with easy victories. Against Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Mr. Cuomo wins 58% to 24%, while against Donald Trump, the governor wins 63% to 26%, the poll found.
Mr. Astorino, however, is largely unknown to the vast majority of voters (86%).
Among voters statewide, 59% said that Mr. Cuomo deserves to be re-elected.

All the 'whiners' and 'complainers' here in Schenectady will then have ocean front property! |

Sure, complain taxes are too high - then oppose ANYTHING that comes in that'll generate revenue for the community or state. The Waaaam-bulance is enroute NY .. climb aboard! |

Hey, Toolbag... All I did was make a comparison to AC in the event that Schenectady became oceanfront property....if you don't like the comparo..too f'ing bad...maybe it's closer to the truth than you would like to admit... That being said, I have no problem having Casino gambling in Schenectady or Schenectady County....bring the Casino's in and then elect a competent government that are not in the back pocket of certain real estate developers and you might have a chance. |

New York does not have a viable Republican party and hasn't had one for ages. Notice who ran against Cuomo. A crazyman from Buffalo. No serious party puts forth such a candidate. The last time the Republicans had a decent candidate, they gave him no backing, and basically handed the election to Eliot Spitzer. They don't care. John Faso would have made a good governor. What these polls don't and can't take into account is all the New Yorkers "voting with their feet" or making plans to do so. It is similar to Schenectady. McCheese wins an election, because those who would oppose him have folded their tents and stolen away into the night. |
