BS, as was his usual tactic, pulled some imaginary high cost figure out of his posterior, in order to justify eliminating skating in the park. He did at one point have a crew of jail inmates come out and clear off a very small area of ice, he said it was in response to the citizens' requests, but I happen to know it was because a couple of young men who wanted to use the lake for hockey practice had stomped out the message, "STRATTON SUCKS" in the snow, and he was too lazy to go shovel it off himself. It's a shame, it has been great conditions for skating, and such a beautiful setting, but skating is another thing that has been 'let go'. I think that the money given to Proctor's should instead be used for skating, because that drew visitors to the city as well. I've had people ask me about it, and I have to tell them that the city hasn't bothered with it for years. BTW, speaking of vacant houses (on another thread), on beautiful Wright Avenue, the street that leads up to the park gate, two house right across from each other, in the middle of the street, are sitting empty. One is boarded up. A beautiful street like that. |
