In his State of the Union speech tonight, President Obama will announce his intent to use his executive
authority to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers to $10.10, the White House said Tuesday.

The new executive order will increase pressure on Congress to pass legislation sponsored by Sen.
Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., that raises the minimum wage for all workers
from $7.25 to $10.10.

The minimum wage hike the president will introduce tonight will apply only to new federal contract
workers, giving contractors time to adjust and price their bids. The workers who will be affected by
this increase include janitors and construction workers working on federal sites as well as military base
workers who make minimum wage.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

AND.....they will STILL be at the bottom....and now for longer....the president just usurped their raises and gave corp
the breathing room they need to 'reshuffle' their decks....

the minimum wage is a red herring to hide the real problems of system rigging to keep the cast system in check...

wouldn't want those nannys/janitors/soldiers etc to be unhappy serving the upper echelon now would we...that might
be anarchy...

now that the president felt the need to fluff the minimum wage pillow A LITTLE maybe he would like to address those
he rubs elbows with and sleeps with...

President Executive owner of America......priceless

The "HUGE" minimum wage problem is fallacy plain and simple. Yes, some people only make the minimum wage, but not nearly as much as the Dems and press want you to think...Here are the plain facts:

2.8% of all workers make the minimum wage
Of those, 64% are part time workers, 50% are between 16-24..in other words, kids or young adults STARTING OUT in the workplace.

So, the percentage of full time workers that make minimum wage is 1% of the total work force.

Good, then making this change will only help out the poorest of the poor which really needs to happen, this is the best pro minimum raise argument I have heard yet.

nope...they will STILL be the poorest.....because now they have to contribute more to their 'benefits' and work more hours

they can't work more hours because then the benefits decrease....

you see, it's NOT about the minimum wage because it's STILL the bottom....

Yeah, it makes it illegal for federal contractors to hire additional workers willing to work for less than $10.10 per hour.  Great policy.

Obama is the customer.  It's kinda like when public schools force non union contractors that bid jobs to do work in their building to agree to pay their workers prevailing rate(union wage).

The point here is that the impact will be negligible, although both sides for and against say the impact will be great... the stats just don't back either of them up.

Funny!  The same people who argue for giving rich people money in the form of tax cuts...
are fighting very hard to keep the poor and bottom of the middle class from getting one dime.

If this board were full of the 1%ers, or even the top 10%ers or even the top 40%ers, I could
understand their support for the Rich and their hatred of the Poor...

Any 1%ers out there this morning???
Anyone???
Any top 10%ers in the forum today???
Any Top 20%ers???
Anyone???
Bueller???
Anyone???

I'd be fine to going back to Clinton era rates for the rich...but to pay down the debt, not to give more to the poor and bottom of the middle class.
Those people pay no federal income tax already,or pay a negative tax in the form of a credit

On the issue of minimum wage...
Take a taxpayer 50 dollar bill and throw it out the window in front of a 1%er's house.
He takes the taxpayer $50 and sends it to his accountant who invests it (tax free) in an
offshore account or a tax free investment.
The TaxPayer gets nothing back.

Take the same $50 and throw it out the window in a poor or middle class neighborhood.  The poor
man finds it and buys some groceries, pays his Nat Grid Bill or even buys a bag of weed.
The middle class man takes the $50 and buys lunch for himself and his spouse, pays off $50 of
his credit card bill, or buys his wife a bottle of wine and some flowers.
In all these cases (even buying a bag of weed) the taxpayers $50 remains in the system.  It will
be circulated through the community over and over again.
Nat Grid pays it's employees, the grocer the credit card company, the lunch counter, the florist
the liquor store and even the drug dealer all benefit from that $50, and they spend it in this country
and tax revenue is generated by those transactions.

A $10.00 minimum wage has the same effect.  Not may minimum wage earners will invest in
offshore Cayman Islands tax shelters... they will spend those dollars, usually in the community.
A $10. minimum wage helps everyone... even the rich bastard!
