Christine- it's the republican party that creates tax shelters and loopholes for their billionaire friends and then look the other way when jobs are outsourced. That's not the subject of this thread- but I'm not surprised since you don't have the facts on your side that you just bash Democrats from your so insightful position behind the computer screen in your mom's basement.
NOW BACK TO THE SUBJECT OF THE THREAD christine. All cities have potholes. I was in Rotterdam in August. However, I drove throughout the area. Including neighboring counties. Schenectady has nothing to be ashamed of concerning their roads compared to other cities. Since I had no horse in the pothole race- bad roads would have stuck out like sore thumbs. Schenectady roads are fine. If you don't like the area- MOVE!

I just wanted to quote this because it's funny.

I like this one...David seems to always suggest emigrating as the solution to watching the tens of thousands you pay in taxes get stolen as the city neighborhoods and infrastructure crumbles.
I can't count the people I know that plan to move out of NYS within the next ~10 years or so.
And not a lot are really planning to replace them - there's a reason we lost 10 representatives in Congress.
NYS is in a death spiral - chasing taxpayers out, few emigrating in... Growing demand for entitlements. We're not quite Detroit, but we are heading in that direction.

You opened the door, Dave. Perhaps Dave you have the guts to explain how the dems are doing good in the city exempting the millionaires and billionaires owners of property downtown from paying taxes, thus making the financially struggling homeowners with the typical household incomes of $40,000pay the taxes of those rich. By the way, these ARE the FACTS, the income is official from the 2010 census, the tax exemptions are from the official tax records, not to mention all the tax money given to the millionaires and billionaires for their new buildings (homeowners do NOT bet money from the city to fix up their homes, but the city charges homeowners with a code violation and financially penalizes them if their house numbers are not a certain size. It is a FACT that a very very very long time, decades upon decades TAXPAYING hair salon in downtown was forced to pay his own taxes PLUS the taxes of the Forbes billionaire company Paul Mitchell, and the taxpaying business went out of business---thus the dems in the city are forcing taxpaying businesses to close down. Rudnicks was another that existed for decades, paid taxes, stayed downtown in the best of times and in the worst of times. But then the city and plex were giving out millions upon millions upon millions of dollars to millionaires and billionaires, not a penny to Rudnicks. Then the city exempted their rich political cronies from paying taxes downtown after the city used tax money to build them new multimillion dollar buildings. The city forced a small mom and pop business to pay the property and school taxes for all these lavish high assessed buildings. Rudnicks owner stated that they didn't want to close but they had no choice.
That all said, perhaps Dave, you can state, and provide evidence, of how the city is improved. Tell us Dave, tell us what effect downtown has had on the tax base. What effect has downtown had on property values, tax bills,, home sale prices?
We don't live in the city but do in the county. So I'm thankful we don't pay the city's taxes. You suggest that if people don't like it then move. Would you care to explain HOW they should to that when houses in the city, in fact very very nice houses, sit for a year or two with no buyers?
By the way, neither of us is enrolled in a political party.
And on the topic, sure, there are potholes all over parts of the country that have freeze/thaw times. But there are critically necessary complete road repaving (or rip up and start from scratch) jobs that need to be done because those who pay the taxes are ENTITLED to good roads without constantly paying for car repairs and/or realignments because the city chooses to spend money on a gold ceiling for Proctors, and exempt the rich (who don't live in the city, not even in the county) from paying taxes.
How you can speak about the city when you allegedly lived in Rotterdam in the past and don't even live in thisstate now, thus you do NOT pay the taxes in the city, do not experience the day to day problems of life in the city, do not drive the roads on a daily basis in the city, and try to speak about the city, is beyond most of the rest of us on these boards.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Hey Dave, tell that to the people who lived int his house. They already moved. They have ben trying to sell their house since October 2012. Yes, that is correct Dave, 2012, not 2013. Over one year now Dave they have been trying to sell.
The city claims the house is worth $182,000. When they started trying to sell, they were asking only $149,000, the asking price has been dropped three times, it's only $112,000, and despite that low price and despite it being "the featured house" on the mayor's gala house tour several months ago, there are still NO TAKERS.
http://www.prudentialmanor.com/pages/152573/sys_0/id_295928/NY/Schenectady/1077-GLENWOOD-BLVD.aspx The head of Proctors fled the city in 2010. He listed the city house off and on since then, no takers.
Even a city council woman fled the city, she listed her city house last April and still no takers.
City councilman Erickson and his wife lived in the city, bought a bigger house in the city and listed the old house in April 2011, it's still for sale, no takers
Former school super Eric Ely had a nice house in a nice area, fled the city (well, was run out of the city, sort of) listed his house in early 2010, four years later, no takers. Speaking of schools, the school tax bill ALONE on that house is just shy of $5,000, but remember, a good chunk of that tax bill covering the tax bills of the downtown millionaire and billionaire cronies of the city's leaders.
So many people have already moved out of the city, their houses are listed for sale, no takers. So Dave, do they ruin their credit and just abandon their houses and ruin their credit? Of course many did not have paid off houses, so they moved out fo the city and have tried to sell there houses with no luck and many are letting their city houses go into mortgage foreclosures.
You say "move," explain how easy that is.

Don't bother Mikechristine, you asked every alias of his the same questions and never received a response and you never will. His posts make him look stupid and the fact he can't stand behind one user name and debate shows he has no balls and no facts to back it up.

And the thing is, it's not an issue of not liking the area. There are many areas in the city where, absent the city's issues and almost highest taxes in the country, we'd like to be living in the city, most of our issue has been lot size (we like our big yard, combined with ample off street parking, and lack of traffic), but the ever increasing taxes, the annual eliminations/reductions of essential service, the poor school system, the punk kids roaming around all hours, the poor roads, lack of good plowing, etc just doesn't make it worth the money.
Dave, you don't pay txes in the city so you don't know anything,, so you might as well keep your trap shut.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Honestly Dave, you don't have a f'ing clue about how things are here.. you live halfway across the Country. Ok, you were in Rotterdam in August, big deal... There's not much of a pothole problem in August...The potholes occur during the freeze thaw cycles in the winter/spring...
The roads in Schenectady ARE a joke, as are the condition of the neighborhoods. The city can't afford to open pools for the kids in the summer, fix bridges that are closed, or make the parks someplace were kids want to go to, instead of the drug dealers... No, instead they spend taxpayers money on stupid beautification projects in business areas were businesses that get the benefit don't pay property taxes...and the homeowners get to foot the increased tax burden while the owners of these businesses live anywhere but the City.
Local party politics are much different than national party politics, so spare me the "Republicans do this" mantra... The Dems are in complete control in Schenectady City and County and own this mess..
If you don't like it, move? Some of us don't want to, and some can't because of financial loss if they do.. I wonder if you use that "if you don't like it, move" mantra to other people, say the poor, trapped in inner cities?.. somehow, I doubt it...

Funny funny funny. The ultra-conservatives rant and rant and rant. When you guys have some evidence and proof to back up your rants, then I'll consider evaluating it.
There are people here in Omaha whose house's have been on the market for over a year- join the club.
Potholes aren't an issue in August? No shiiiit! It's kinda tough to keep up in the winter, but it seems to get fixed as the weather warms. Fuhhkking brilliant! Just like every other decent size city!!!
Funny how you guys think I'm a bunch of different people. I have a full time job, a part time job and I'm in the United States Army Reserve. I work out nearly every day since I must maintain my weight and PT levels. In other words- unlike christine and henry and the "rest of you guys" - I'm a productive member of society. Ffunny how a bunch of your "friends" magically show up henry- alias much henry? Again- you "guys" are FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY.
Play all the aliases you want henry. The next time you or christine actually provide evidence or even a coherent argument will be the first.
There's a new sheriff in town. You girls may have the time advantage since you get to be in the basement on your mom's computer all day and all night- but I'll be here from time to time to expose you as the no life ranting losers you are!!

I'm pro-gay rights, for free birth control for whoever wants it, and for legalization of pot nationally...yeah, ultra-conservative...try again, Davey... I could give a flying F*** whether you'll consider evidence or not, the facts are the facts...When 90% of students attending Schenectady City schools are on the free lunch program, it should give you a clue on the urban blight that exists in this city..and there are no signs it will get better.
New sheriff in town?? That makes me laugh... you're in friggin Omaha and Boxy is in Gloversville, but you are experts on Schenectady the city and the County....funny....

LMAO, you haven't put up one decent argument since your new account, instead you been on boxes junk on every thread. Attacking conservatives might be fun for you but at least put up some facts which you fail to do. Since I live in the city and drive the roads everyday like most everyone else here we know the problems, we know the half a$$ jobs this city is doing. Best part is its not just the city residents who know it it is everyone who visits the city. The most used comment I hear is "F*ck those roads" by people who live outside the city. New sheriff in town... I haven't laughed so much in a long time thanks for the chuckle there Wyatt Earp

Funny, I've driven on other high traffic roads in the area and not nearly as many potholes, or as deep. Why you ask? Because they don't hot patch the roads every fu(king year and say it is fixed. Patching the roads is a TEMPORARY FIX. Properly managed municipalities actually REPAVE the roads that are peppered with patched potholes because they understand that roads patched in the spring come up like a cork in the winter time, and the pothole is now deeper than the year before.
Schenectady cuts corners on infrastructure as they stand up at council meetings and demand pay raises. They are a bunch of crooks in Schenectady. You should come and see for yourself some time.
