SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Police are on scene of a suspicious death investigation on State Street in Schenectady.
Their investigation is just beginning as crime tape is up, blocking off the entrance to apartments at 766 State Street.
NEWS10 ABC has been told that crime scene investigators are inside, documenting what is being called a suspicious death.
Police say they were called to the scene around 1 p.m. for a welfare check. They were unable to reach anyone inside and decided to then force their way in, which led to the discovery of a body
Police say the body was of a man in his 50's and has since been removed.
At this time police aren't releasing much information.
Neighbors say they haven't seen or heard from the man this week.
Robert Hoffer lives in downstairs apartment and said "I find out it's one of my neighbors, that lives upstairs, they says that they found him dead in his apartment."
Schenectady Police Department Sgt. Matthew Dearing explained "The evidence techs are going to be here processing the scene, we are going to hold the scene most likely until the autopsy is completely that will most likely be in the morning"
There are security cameras located right next to the entrance. Police say they are looking to see if those captured any helpful evidence as to how the man who lives there has died.
