Wondering about experiences others have had at Dolce Vita.
Myself and family and friends have all felt quality is "up and down".
Claims is "best" Italian restaurant around, but I think that is stretching it a lot.
Have others had similar experiences?
Like/dislike; would go again/never again?

Here are 2 write-ups...second one I think sums it up pretty well:

Most people say it's so-so.  Though there is one board member who raves about it as thought it's almost the best on earth.

A so called businessman who needed handouts to get going, went begging, couldn't get a loan (obviously) and owes big time back taxes, don't expect much if you get sick on the food.

When interviewed he stated he and his daughter invested $750,000 in new place.
Are back taxes still owed? Wonder if he is current on taxes at new place.

I see that Johnny's was rated Numero 1 in the Gazoot. I have to say it is very good and the prices are reasonable and the place has that clean, new feeling to it, but isn't all phony ambiance like an Applebees.

IF he had that much money, why did go begging?   Why was he looking for handouts from people?

If he had that much money to spend, then why didn't he pay the tens of thousands owed in state taxes?

I don't believe he owns the property though, so no property tax issue.  Interesting that he didn't look to getting downtown and a handout from the taxpayers.  Or maybe he tried and was turned down.

It's a sound strategy...

The food is fresh, excellent, and very reasonably priced.

There's nothing on the lunch menu that even costs $10.

And everyone there is very friendly too...

reservations are definitely needed for dinner.

We personally have never been there, but have talked to many folks who rave about it.

we don't go downtown so we wouldn't know where parking is for the place.

There's parking behind Center City - and a grand hallway that cuts through that building - doors lock at like 7 or 8pm, but it saves you from having to walk down Jay Street.

They have parking reserved for Johnny's back there - and for dinner, if there happens to be an event that night that has parking attendants, you can get your ticket validated at Johnny's.  (But not for lunch)

The food really is excellent - a great value.  The drinks aren't cheap, BUT they don't cheapen them up by watering them down (or so I'm told)...  Good value all the way around.

I use to go to Appertivo maybe once every 2-3 months for a dinner meeting for work.  Haven't been back since Johnny's opened.  Food is phenomenal, prices are cheaper.

Downtown businesses should have free taxi service to and from their businesses.

People don't come because of parking and safety issues if they have to walk from a lot.

Downtown was very popular before they moved all parking to remote locations.

I hate to even drive through downtown.

As I sat at the light at Broadway and State the other night, a couple crossed Broadway in front of me.

A little bit later after waiting for the light, with absolutely no traffic going by, I was allowed to turn
left on to State, then the light at Erie stopped me from turning right on Erie. As I waited for the
light to allow me to turn, the same couple who crossed Broadway in front of me were now crossing
Erie Blvd. Then I make the turn and get stuck at the light by Burger king where they have added
additional waiting time for green arrow left turns that were never there before. All these sophisticated
lights holding me hostage and making me wait for absolutely no other cars on the road.

I remember 30 years ago we had the technology to have traffic signals blinking at night, instead
of wasting everyone's time and gas.

Wasteful, technology deficient and inconvenient, while drunken students run out in front of you on
Erie Blvd every night.

Good job, Schenectady planners.

Johnny's has the luxury of not having to own the property.

Galesi owns it.

Development at City Center LLC
695 Rotterdam Industrial Park
Schenectady NY 12306

Being publicly funded helps keep the prices down.

The Galesi mafia allows some to prosper, while the rest of the city is ignored but continues to pay.

Assessed value:     $13,317,500

Exemptions: $13,317,500

The parking lot assessed at $9,000 is also completely tax exempt.

It's easy to give good deals when you get free passes for everything.

Johnny's is not a good deal except for those who eat there.

It's a tax burden on the rest of the county taxpayers.

These are my feelings too ... I think Johnny's has to hurt Appertivo ... ... Maybe they have the low prices to hook us in, but for now Johnny's is the best buy in that area.
