I'm not sure why this is such a big story. Kids have been sneaking drugs in school forever. Are they really just becoming aware of this? It's not like the 17 year old tackled and forced the heroin on the other kid, it was all a mutual agreement. I wish these kids realizes what a mess heroin makes of your life though.

heroin ain't cheap. it might be for the first few hits.....to get ya hooked.
then the price goes way up!!
Quoted Text
State police spokesman Mark Cepiel said investigators have found heroin use to be on the rise in the region among both adults and young adults, including high schoolers. The rise is fueled in part by price, he said, with heroin being sold fairly cheaply.
I'm not sure what the definition of fairly cheaply is. $5/ bag, $20/ bag, $100/ bag or what quantity is in each bag, ie: gram, 1/8 gram etc. But it's not that the price goes up. The need to have more does go up though thus you need to buy more. |

You never read about this kind of funny business going on in the Schenectady or Albany City schools. You don't read about it because it isn't news that drug use goes on in the City schools. Suburban parents still act shocked when it happens in their schools. |

Newsworthy because heroin use/injected another student in school is likely not a norm when it comes to the typical type of stuff students are doing on school grounds. Pot, pills, snorting, aerosol...more likely the usual thing. Heroin and coke are hard core and I don't think it's seen much in school environment. |

The surprising thing in the story is that the kids actually shot up at school. The thing that burns me is the sensational reporting feeds into the underlying theme of 'dirty' Schenectady versus 'clean' Clifton Park. Kids outside the cities use just as many, if not more, drugs. |

Pot, alcohol were the norm when I was in school, nobody I knew messed with heroin or crack and I hung out with the stoners, even they were wise enough to stay away from that crap. Strongest drug I know used in school was LSD but that was very rare and was usually only a 1 time thing. |
