I stand corrected. I was thinking about this last night. All the Mandela coverage made me notice some parallels to Schenectady. Jaystreet has been mentioning racism, and I've kind of been rejecting the idea, because it is a sore topic to me. People like to call us racist here if we don't think we should support half of the Bronx and a bunch of scam NFPs. However, we do have downtown, and nearby but not part of it, we have a bunch of satellite 'townships', separate but unequal; as JS pointed out, the jobs associated with the new downtown don't seem to be going to some of our needier residents... how about those high-paying jobs at Proctor's? Is anybody from the Hill working one of those? Isn't in unusual, such an outlay of public money, with no provision for any kind of minority participation?
I'm not someone who believes in affirmative action or minority set-asides or that kind of thing, necessarily, but the people involved with the downtown scam claim to be part of the "diversity" crowd, don't they? What gives, here?
They even used money that Hillary got us for one area, to fancy up one little section of road in their Utopia. Maybe "they" think that million bucks of taxpayer dough they spent to move that Poverty Palace up the road to a neighborhood they thought it belonged in would count as "doing something" for the impoverished minorities in that area.
Yes, we have a little white utopia being built right under our noses. I was blind to it, because I am white and I was being shortchanged for it as well, but it is worse than an exclusive club for connected people financed with our money, it is an exclusive club for connected WHITE people. How are they getting away with it?
Where are the minority owned businesses helped by Metrograft? Where are the minority contractors with a piece of the action? It is a whitewash. But the blacks keep voting for the same old-same old and expect different results.
Oh but they do take care of the minorities. They feed them, clothe them and give them free housing and medical care....and they don't have to lift a finger for any of it. They don't have to get up at 6 a.m., get showered/dressed, fight traffic, go to a job with a crappy boss, fight traffic/bad weather again, go home, eat dinner, go to bed and start it all over again....day after day after day! They don't have to deal with income tax, mowing lawns, maintaining a house....none of that hassle.
Oh the minorities are very well taken care of....and it is the minorities that keep voting these clowns in office.

But bt, not all the minorities on the Hill are of the freeloader/drug dealer class. Many of them are property taxpayers, and many work for a living, and they all pay sales tax which goes not for the residents' benefit, but to the white elite and their playground which has clean sidewalks and nice restaurants they can't afford and good paying jobs for the chosen few, which they aren't. If you look at two areas of a city, and one is a lot nicer than the other, and the one that is a lot nicer gets way more taxpayer support, as far as infrastructure and service and so forth, and that area is really white, even though the city as a whole is not, that sounds to me like racism. People throw around that term as if it is anybody else's business how you are supposed to think, but here you have the real thing going on, a huge government spending program going for the benefit of non-needy connected white people, and nobody seems to notice that it's out of line with current social policy. I'm not saying I support that kind of policy, race-based anything, but I think that in Schenectady, a lot of people who talk the talk are certainly not walking the walk here. We closed schools and bused our kids around the city because RACISM, we get told all the time how racist we are, yet here is a glaring example of a real life case of racism, just because it may be inadvertently racist doesn't mean that these people shouldn't get called out on it. I'm enjoying this.
Thanks for expanding upon ths Miss X. I do go to shows at Proctors and the audience is all white. The restaurants have waiters and waitresses that all have a certain look as well. There are plenty of educated blacks right up the street at SCCC learning culinary arts. Do they get hired at the same rate as suburban kids? I do think President Bullock made many inroads at SCCC but even he fell victim to the control of these county political dimwits and wannabes and was misled many times. That is why he had to do a job search in secret I do believe. Did the civil rights movement somehow miss Schenectady?

they get voted in just like a farmer is loved by their live stock because they show up every morning with the 'feed'
