The trash fees should come directly from renters. Not paid for through rent, to the landlord. Right down to city hall, quarterly. If you don't pay, you get a ticket and a fine. If the unit is vacant, no fee because no trash. If trash collection isn't included in your property taxes, why is it only property owners are forking over money? They don't pay for renter's other bills, like cable and telephone. I'm not against renters, far from it, I rented for years. I'm also not one of those who believe renters don't pay taxes. It is just high time people who are fine with all the budget chicanery in the city, because their rent is still lower than other places, or they pay little or no rent, start to understand what all the fuss is about. If the garbage "fee" is truly that, a separate, distinct, and discrete fee-for-service arrangement, then it should be paid directly by those using the service, not just by property taxpayers. |

Yes, yes, yes! Not as a punishment, but to wake people up that we are all in this together. |

the problem is that there are way too many city gypsies who just empty the apartment onto the sidewalk and leave, only to move on to another neighborhood/city/town to do it again....just to avoid paying for their 'things'....I know this because folks that I have worked with do it down state AND here.... |

The fly by nights are always the problem. Maybe, if no trash fee is paid, the landlord has to pay it or evict the tenants, something like that. It could discourage slumlordism in the city. |
