There are  a number of people who used to live in this area who still return at Thanksgiving, and who used to enjoy attending the Christmas parade downtown as part of their trip home. Having a ridiculously early "holiday" parade because a couple of people wanted it that way has ruined what was a happy family tradition for quite a few people. Too bad.

I totally agree Madam, also the themes they come up with are ridiculous. Such a shame.

Agree on the parade change...would have been nest to leave it alone.

And for DVOR...you serve BS with closed eyes and could careless
about the people. That's why having you on the planning committee is a total farce and joke.

We have only been to it once since the day was changed, and only because our child was in it. Every year I still forget that it not the weekend after Thanksgiving.  It use to be such a nice part of the long holiday weekend.

The parade featured a Roaring 20’s theme, complete with cloche hats and flapper dresses.

And why are YOU, the big cheerleader for the dems, plex, and downtown, why are YOU NOT at the parade jumping up and down sharking your pom poms???????

NO RESPONSE, OF COURSE.

By the way, DV, do you have the GUTS to state the effects of your dems, plex and downtown on the city?  Like what is it all doing for home values, home sales, the tax base, tax BILLS???????

Again, NO RESPONSE, OF COURSE

Not being "nayboobs" but rather "TRUTH TELLERS," stating the UNDISPUTABLE FACTS.

it is well documented here that YOU, DV, have NOT produced ANY EVIDENCE, not one teeny weeny shred of evidence to show how the city is improving.

At all cost you avoid addressing the DRASTICALLY FALLING tax base, the DRASTICALLY FALLING property values, the DRASTICLALY INCREASED tax BILLS, the falling home sales and home sales.   So, care to tell us why you REFUSE to address these issues, these FACTS, these TRUTHS?????   NO RESPONSE, EH?

We don't have holiday meals at my house. We do have a Thanksgiving dinner, and while I haven't personally attended the parade in years, I was pointing out that many people made it a family event for that weekend and now that's gone. You would think that someone who constantly claims to be a practicing Catholic and has an allegedly close extended family would not be attempting to mock someone who expressed empathy for those who had their tradition ruined for no good reason.

If you want a parade on the weekend after Thanksgiving than you should put up the money to sponsor it.  The Gazette and others sponsored this parade, and made the changes a number of years ago.  They made the changes for what they considered good reasons -- most people spend the weekend after Thanksgiving shopping or traveling to/from out of town locations where they had Thanksgiving with their family and that caused parade participation and attendance to decline -- moving it to the weekend BEFORE had made it easier for more people to participate and to watch the parade. Besides -- I am willing to bet that if the parade were scheduled on weekend AFTER Thanksgiving that the nayboobs would be criticizing that because it would interfere with their tradition of going shopping on that weekend.

Religion has nothing to do with it -- but you can always count on the bigoted nayboobs to throw some personal attack into their weak arguments.

No, we HAD a parade, that Schenectadians wanted, the day after Thanksgiving, and it was changed, not because of people "wanting to shop" and "making it easier to attend", those are not the reasons the parade was changed, even you must know that. Once again, my post flew right over your head, and you start spewing nonsense in your zeal to be insulting. The parade was changed because of a few people, the changed date makes it impossible for some people who live out of town to attend, as they used to. That is what I said, and it is true, what you said is not true. People have had something they valued taken away, and you make dumb, nasty remarks about their misfortune. It could easily be moved back to the traditional date, and it should be.

Sorry, DV, but you are WRONG.  It was the dictator mayor who FORCED the change all because of his precious political crony King Phillip had booked some show for that night, and of course King Phillip rules.

NEVER NEVER did people write to the city in droves demanding a change to the parade.  And Santa should not arrive until AFTER Thanksgiving, but your buddy Dictator Stratton wanted to commercialize Christmas more.

And by Friday evening, people are largely done with their Black Friday shopping--especially since shopping is starting on Thursday night, of course since you don't have  wife and children so you wouldn't have a clue about how families work.

And just for your info, the parade was far more successful with far more in attendance before it was moved.  The attendance is really dropping, guess you don't remember the photos and/or videos posted here from last year.

Thank you, MC. That guy just makes stuff up to bolster his stupid remarks.
Tuesday in the Park, the people loved it, Stratton said no. Ice skating, people wanted it, Stratton said no. The Christmas Parade, nobody wanted to move it, Stratton moved it. Anything that might result in Schenectadians coming together and enjoying common traditions; God forbid we take any pride in our city.

How did I manage to make that typo in the title and not see it?

half way through this thread I stopped reading and jumped to here where I am posti

Morris and McCarthy had no right to take away from the people what they did.  They are a great example of what a bully is. They have the credentials and money to prove how good they are.  King McCarthy andlittle Princee Morris.

Meanwhile one of the few things left that hasn't been completely blown away will soon be, you watch and see.   X's where people would be standing will next year show up on the sidewalks and taxpayers will have to pay to watch the parade.
