as the school board tries to fix the mess they created in the first place.

Hundreds of middle schoolers in Schenectady would be divided into core groups of 125 students in "learning communities" but attend gym and go to the library in common areas as part of the district's long-range streamlining of its aging buildings and grade structure.

"The teachers would get to know the kids, it would cut down on the anonymity, and the kids would get to know each other," said school board President Cathy Lewis Thursday while talking about the multimillion dollar makeovers for Mont Pleasant and the now-shuttered Oneida middle schools.

Closings slated, options sought

Schenectady schools slated to close under the district's long-range plan:

Elmer Avenue Elementary school

Franklin D. Roosevelt Elementary school

Blodgett Elementary school

Schools that may close, but district wants to explore options before any final decisions:

Fulton Early Childhood Center

Lincoln Community school

Keane Elementary school

But wait what happened to ALL the money allocated for Lincoln to become a school/medical/drug center?

the 'medical centers' will still happen......

The major renovations to all the schools were a while back, but buildings don't go from tip-top shape to dangerous in that number of years. Oneida school, that went from excellent condition to 'dangerous' and now it is magically safe again. It's called "looking for an excuse to shuffle kids around that doesn't sound like what it is, social engineering", and when the excuse is "safety", it always trumps common sense, money, everything.
