"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I had been just thinking it had finally gotten quiet again. That helicopter ride, which I witness fairly frequently, is one of the reasons (there are many) that I was against the ACA. It does not touch the issue of that kind of wild spending. The cost is going to be born somewhere, just who is 'saving' when the dying have to take a desperate ride like that?
I don't like to equate dollars and cents with human life, but someone is, when it is deemed economically impractical to treat people in the city they live in.
The person who died, I have no idea who he is, to me he is another problem statistic, over there by a problem school, part of a rapidly spreading problem. Maybe if I knew him I would feel differently about him. You know, if 'stop and frisk' is truly so great and "saves lives", how come we never instituted it here? I believe the real reason NYC's violence went down is because Rudy and Bloomie chased it up here, and I also believe stopping people like that is an unconstitutional violation of an individual's rights, but we've gotten to the point where everybody has her constitutional rights violated all the time in America, should young male street punks be the only ones exempt?

Dollars to doughnuts, Ellis gets a very hefty "referral fee" for calling that copter.

Medical people don't like to talk about it, but every time your doctor sends you for an extra test that you might not need, he's making money on it. either directly, or indirectly.
Johnson & Johnson was just fined $2 billion for bribing doctors to prescribe it's products.

Mayor McCarthy and his team are doing a great job in the city.  Keep up the good work.

I heard about this on the radio this morning.

I gasped when I heard that this guy was shot in the 'upper torso' and was taken to Ellis.....THEN.....sent to Albany Med, where he clearly should have gone FIRST!!!

WTF???? Ellis is NOT a trauma hospital!!

Almost 100% of all folks who have had 'less' threatening issues...never saw the light of day at Ellis!!

Didn't make sense to me.

bt, Ellis is where they stabilize them for the helicopter rides, they take off from the school. Imagine if you get shot in some of our sloppy weather? No helicopter ride, probably a lengthy and scary ambulance ride on a slippery highway? Any traumatic event, you just make it to the hospital with your loved one, but you're not through yet. They have a scary and uncomfortable ride ahead of them, you can catch up with them later, if you have a car handy. One of the reasons we pay higher taxes in a city is for more access to things like emergency rooms. In reality, we are as far away from treatment for some things as people who live in the boonies.

they have to apply for the 'permit' to have the helipad....and the contract to be the supplier of said emergency services....

Ellis was NEVER going to be able to do it....NO $$$$.....albany med has 'old $$' and those that support the school and
more resources......

and the next up and coming is the northway helipad....ellis lost that too....

It 'kind of' makes sense because it takes about 15 minutes for the helicopter to be dispatched and make it to Ellis, and it takes about 15 minutes for the ambulance to make it from MP to Ellis, which has a ready helipad waiting, and if the ambulance beats the copter, the time can be spent stabilizing the patient.

I live in the Balltown Rd area though, so there is no way I would have an ambulance go to Ellis instead of Albany Med, which is 20 minutes by regular car.
The 5 minutes I would gain by going to Ellis would be worse than a waste.
It would be counterproductive.

I saw in the Albany paper that the victim was a parolee from Albany, so he wasn't supposed to be in Schenectady at night in the first place. Grown men running around making it unsafe to live here. Sheesh. I do not understand this shooting your enemies business, or even having enemies. I also do not understand why we are forced to tolerate it, the rest of us. The president literally flew over us, on the way to a love fest with his pal Jeff, and this is own Americans beneath him live. Quit worrying about the rest of the world and focus on our cities here, please, Mr. Obama. Something is really wrong.
