"CHEERS - To a donation. He will be ridiculed and chastised, and political sides will erupt in accusations, but what he did was a good thing. U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko of Amsterdam sent to Leatherstocking Honor Flight a check for $1,550, which was his salary for the time of the government's shutdown. Maybe for just one moment, we could make this gesture about the Honor Flight and its purpose, and just feel grateful the group received the donation. Maybe for just one moment, people can leave the politics out of this cheer."
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. John Kenneth Galbraith
Of course when a lib makes a donation it gets in the paper. A repub and forget it, it is nice and quiet
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

No one knows what happens if a Republican makes a donation... It's never happened!
(By the way, the paper that ran that piece is very conservative)

The fact that his PR people released this to the media already tells me it's political. If he sent the check anonymously without looking for recognition, I might believe it was genuine. But of course Tonko didn't, so it's just more shameless politicking and pandering. How stupid are Americans? A politician announces his donation then says leave the politics out of it. Hey Tonko, make the donation anonymously and it won't have any chance of being construed as political.

Nailed it
"In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot."

BINGO!!!!!!!!! leaders shouldn't tout their donations....kinda like the money changers and the Sadducee
The religious responsibilities of the Sadducees included the maintenance of the Temple in Jerusalem. Their high social status was reinforced by their priestly responsibilities, as mandated in the Torah. The Priests were responsible for performing sacrifices at the Temple, the primary method of worship in Ancient Israel. This also included presiding over sacrifices on the three festivals of pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Their religious beliefs and social status were mutually reinforcing, as the Priesthood often represented the highest class in Judean society. It is important to note that the Sadducees and the priests were not completely synonymous. Cohen points out that “not all priests, high priests, and aristocrats were Sadducees; many were Pharisees, and many were not members of any group at all.”[9] As mentioned above, it is widely believed that the Sadducees were descended from the House of Zadok and sought to preserve this priestly line and the authority of the Temple.
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Did it come from his campaign account or from his own personal account? Lots of politicians make donations from campaign accounts -- which is actually not their own money.

This was the right thing to do, anyone in congress accepting pay during this period is a piece sh*t. He should get praise no matter his press release or party.

No one "deserves praise" for making a personal financial contribution to any cause. Most people make personal contributions out of the goodness of their hearts and because they believe in the cause. If they are seeking praise and/or votes and/or any other personal gain from their contributions than they are really very shallow and self-centered.

I am sure the check went out while the fax machines (email is to advanced for these clowns who never held a real job) were burning up making the announcement. The vets were pissed at the fakery involved with putting up thousands of steel barrycades and armed guards to keep them out (which cost more than not having the single parks attendent hanging out) so he was trying to suck up. When you're a single guy and make over $200-300 grand a year double dipping, this is not a lot. It would be like a regular middle class person giving some charity a $100 bill. Be real. He is obviously trying to score political points, b/c if he was not- he would have done this quietly or anonymously.
