Median means MIDDLE.  So if the range was 35 to 55 year olds, then the median would be 45.

AVERAGE on the other hand takes all groups and finds the total in each group then divides by
the number of quantities...
So if the range were 100 35 year olds and 500 55 year olds the AVERAGE would be 51.6.
while that MEDIAN would be 45.  (a huge difference)

We are comparing a group that even with a MEDIAN age of 55 to a group with a MINIMUM age of
65+.

Who has the most watched news network in all the land?

THR's 35 Most Powerful People in Media
Fox News!

And who has the oldest audience in all of cable?
Fox News!

In a survey released by analyst Steve Sternberg, Fox News has the oldest audience among fully distributed cable networks. The network's average viewer last season was 65 years old, according to Nielsen. Heck, it's viewers are even older than viewers of Hallmark Channel, Military Channel and Golf Channel.

Perhaps the reason viewers tend to leave Fox News on all day racking up hours of big Nielsen numbers is they can't actually change the channel?
(Ah, Fox News, you know we only kid you because you sort of set yourself up for it).
CNN wasn't far behind, though -- its average audience was 63(BOOMER). MSNBC was a perky 59(BOOMER). CNBC is the young turk at 52(BOOMER).

WHO WATCHES CABLE NEWS????  BOOMERS!!!

This is why when you talk to a Boomer, you already know what has been programmed into their soft skulls. If I'm talking politics with to a Boomer, I can predict how they will answer any current event question before they answer.  Just watch one of the network shows, and you can predict it too. They get all their talking points from one of the network news programs, and they regurgitate them.  It's funny to do.  Then if you press them for more detail on their answer, which is usually a talking point platitude, they get visibly flustered.  They really don't know why they believe what they believe, they can never expand past the talking point.  Once they get sputtering and spewing and getting angry, I usually let them off the hook easy and agree with them.

Rand Paul seems far right to you, because you are the most extreme far leftist ever.

You prove your communist leftist ideas with your disapproval of all of these issues:

Long hair?  Crazy hair but not really long.
Pot Smokin?  Wants to legalize pot.  A Pot Promoter.
Anti establishment.  YUP
Tree Huggin? No.

That makes you a leftist supporter of pot arrests.

That makes you a leftist supporter of nonconforming haircuts.

That makes you a leftist supporter of the establishment.

An idiot leftist supporter of only allowing corporate deforestation.

You are so far to the left you have to walk 30 miles to reach the center.

After suffering a humiliating loss over the government shutdown, Republican politicians have now turned their sights on each other as they argue about who is at fault.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) helped lead the effort to defund the Affordable Care Act, or "Obamacare," which led to the government shutdown. In a Wednesday interview, he said the Republican's failure was the fault of the "Washington establishment" and his fellow Republican senators.

"I would point out that had Senate Republicans united and supported House Republicans, the outcome of this I believe would've been very, very different," he said.

Fellow Tea Party Republican Sarah Palin implied on her Facebook page that she would back primary challenges to some of the Republicans who voted for the bill that ended the shutdown.

"Friends," she wrote, "do not be discouraged by the shenanigans of D.C.'s permanent political class today. Be energized. We're going to shake things up in 2014. Rest well tonight, for soon we must focus on important House and Senate races. Let's start with Kentucky – which happens to be awfully close to South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi – from sea to shining sea we will not give up."

While some Republicans believe that Cruz's goal failed because the shutdown should have lasted longer, until the Democrats caved, others argued Cruz's goal was doomed to fail from the start.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of those Palin implied she would like to target, suggested that Cruz overreached in attempting to defund the ACA, and his actions have not been beneficial for the country as a whole.

When asked Tuesday by a reporter about Cruz, Graham answered: "I would just say to any member of the Congress now, what is your oath? What is your reason for being here? Are you going to stop our ability to reopen the government forever and to honor our obligations come the 17th? I can understand fighting for your cause, but there comes a point when you have an obligation to your country as the whole."

Graham also recalled the lessons he learned as a member of the U.S. House during the previous government shutdown: "It's not like I haven't been in a position where I was really fired up to change things. I understand that. But at the end of the day, I've learned something since 1995. Fight for your cause – but understand the American people are intrinsically fair minded, and they see in our approach an overreach."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell similarly recalled 1995 and argued that shutting down the government is not a winning strategy for Republicans.

"There's no education in the second kick of a mule," he quipped, in an interview with The Hill. "The first kick of a mule was when we shut the government down in the mid 1990's and the second kick was over the last 16 days. ... There will not be [another] government shutdown. I think we have fully now acquainted our new members with what a losing strategy that is."

Louisiana Governor and possible 2016 presidential contender Bobby Jindal (R), meanwhile, has announced an effort, called "America Next," to recover his party's image. Jindal famously called his party the "stupid party" after the 2012 elections. While he has avoided similar belligerent rhetoric during the shutdown, Jindal has offered some critiques of Republican strategies.

Republicans need to stop simply opposing Obama's agenda without offering an alternative agenda, he complained in a Wednesday interview with Politico.

"Saying 'no' is not enough," he said. "We've got to get beyond the bumper-sticker slogans. We've got to get beyond the 30-second attack ads. ... There's a void, and there's an opportunity to offer specific conservative ideas on the most important issues of the day."

There are plenty of losers in the fight over the government shutdown, as well as a couple of winners.

Losers

Ted Cruz and the Tea Party

The government shutdown began as a result of an effort by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other Tea Party Republicans to defund the Affordable Care Act, or "Obamacare." The freshman senator accused all the Republicans and fellow conservatives who thought his tactic was ill-conceived and ill-executed of not being true to their common cause. This attitude engendered acrimony among his colleagues and will certainly make it less likely that Republicans will follow the lead of Cruz et. al. in the future.

Washington Politicians (Especially Republicans)

Americans have a less favorable view of all Washington politicians as a result of the shutdown. President Barack Obama's approval ratings recently hit an all-time low. The approval ratings of Republicans in Congress fell lower than that of Obama and congressional Democrats.

National Park Service

The National Park Service became Obama's personal goon squad during the shutdown, doing their best to cause as much grief and annoyance as possible during the shutdown. They erected barricades and "closed" signs in front of open-air monuments and parks, evicted people from homes that were on national park land, closed roadways and scenic byways, and even tried to close access to private establishments, such as Mount Vernon.

Winners

Ted Cruz

Cruz has the honor of making both the winner and the loser list. While he lost the respect of his colleagues during the shutdown debacle, he increased his national profile and gained a following among a segment of conservatives who would rather see their politicians challenge Obama at every turn than make good public policy.

Governors

Governors have tended to do well in presidential races ever since reforms in the early 1970's opened the nomination process to a greater number of voters. The image of Washington politicians has taken an even greater hit as a result of the shutdown. This will likely help governors who want to run for the presidency in 2016, such as, on the Democratic side, New York's Andrew Cuomo and Maryland's Martin O'Malley, and on the Republican side, New Jersey's Chris Christie and Louisiana's Bobby Jindal.

His profiled was raised for the future generations.  What the old generation think is "good public policy" the next generations don't.

That's hilarious!!!!!
You really are reality challenged, aren't you!
The quote says "...segment of conservatives who would rather see their politicians challenge Obama at every turn than make good public policy."
So you immediately stereotype these conservatives as the "old generation"....absolutely hilarious.  Where does it state the age range of these
conservatives?
Perfect example of how you like to distort words to fit Cissyworld!

His support is the "older generation" of TeaBaggers from FoxSnooze.

So you might say, Cruz increased his profile in those of a shrinking group.

Well Joe, I understand you are incapable of thinking.  So tell me, who is the "segment of conservatives" that don't want to make "good public policy"?  Who makes up these "conservatives"?  Give me something - age, race, education, a mixture of all...Something.  I know box likes to say the "tea party" is just all old white men that are racist....It's ok, you can put you di(k out there...And second, what is good public policy?  Define that for me?  Please fill in the blanks that the writer leaves out.  I know it doesn't tell you, but it's ok, you can inference by looking at the the politics in America.

Man, you numbskulls are incapable of thinking.  He post an article filled with generalities and no detail, then joe-blow jumps all over me for making a statement outside the confines of an article filled with generalities.

That is good stuff joey....now I know how joe's world view is shaped.  Reading these hard hitting articles telling him who "won" and who "lost" after the government shutdown.  LOL!!!

Reid Says Cruz Wants to Run for President

Quoted Text
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in forthcoming interview that Sen. Ted Cruz
did what he did during the government shutdown because he wants to run for
president, the Washington Post reports.

Said Reid: "In an effort to help him run for president, he has done some stuff
that's really damaging to our country. He's been attempting to raise money.
And who has he hurt? He has hurt average Americans. The government being
shutdown for 14 or 15 days, that has been very hurtful to people. Not only
the people that work for government, but the people who work around
government."

Reid Says Cruz Wants to Run for President

If his stance was so unpopular, why would he make his claim to fame with an unpopular shutdown if he plans to run for president?  Unless it isn't as unpopular as everybody makes it out to be?
