CERMAK: A very early peek at 2015 election
Marv Cermak
Updated 9:52 pm, Monday, October 14, 2013

Good morning to you ... I've been writing columns for more than a half-century and never used that salutation.

...

My "Morning Joe" approach is a springboard to write about the next Schenectady mayoral election way off in 2015. There are reports that Democrat Mayor Gary McCarthy may not go after a second term.

McCarthy denies the reports coming privately from fellow Democrats.

"I'm planning on running for re-election,'' he said last weekend, noting a recent fundraiser took in about $18,000. "I have two years left on my term. Granted, in politics, two years can be a lifetime.''

People close to Democrat Councilwoman Lisa Perazzo say she's interested in the mayor's seat and has the support of key Dems. If not 2015, try 2019?

On the other front, Roger Hull's pals say the Alliance Party leader will again seek the Republican mayoral cross-endorsement. You may recall Hull came close to upsetting McCarthy in 2011.

A dark horse could be outspoken Councilman Vince Riggi who was elected on the GOP/Alliance ticket. He has growing unsolicited grass-roots mayoral support traced to challenging sticky issues pushed by the otherwise all-Democrat council.

I offer these breathtaking, long-range observations for political junkies in lieu of any high-profile races in next month's Schenectady elections.

CITY IS DOOMED IF SHE RUNS AND WINS.   I mean it's been doomed anyway since Stratton and McCheese came in anyway, proof is the never ending falling tax base, falling property values, falling home sales, falling home sale prices, elimination of essential services, never ending increase in taxes, creating of fees and a non-stop increase in fees, etc.   But she will forever KILL the city!!!!!!!!!

The citizenry will have to DEMAND that she quit her job at Proctor's, and file some type of lawsuit if she does not. I doubt she would run if she had to get her fingers out of the pie.

McCheese is like some pathetic no-talent at one of those old fashioned amateur nights. He refuses to acknowledge that the fact that half the audience got up and left and the other half is booing, means that he isn't doing a great job. He only hasn't gotten the hook because the guy with the hook left, too.
Hey, how come Schenectady isn't being considered by those people pushing the casino? I don't want it, but why are they up in Saratoga Springs and not down here getting in on the renaissance?

What am I thinking? Even if we could force the woman to give up her huge conflicting job, in order to run, she would just get it back if she lost, she would still be their agent. I think the idea of this person getting in there made me lose it for a minute.

No secret that the DEMS are looking to dump McCheese. It's hard to find any DEM that would vote for him again. If she does run many others will jump in and opens the door
for either Hull or Riggi.

If Lessa wins it's a guarantee she'll probably appoint Mary Mary as the assessor and then they will somehow give King Philip a 100% tax exemption on his residential house in the stockade, you know, the one that he is way underwater on in his mortgage, that he listed for sale and there were no takers.

I don't understand, Gary isn't that stupid, if he is on the way out anyway, why doesn't he just fix the damn taxes, let people get in here and buy some of these houses, let some of the people trying to escape be able to keep their homes instead, forget about downtown... he doesn't have to leave such a mess. There is no shame in reversing course when anybody can see the course you are on is the wrong one.
BS left a mess and bailed, that one on the council is doing the same, where is the up side for anyone to keep going?

Sounds like Denise Brucker. She has dropped her price in Woodlawn to $105,000 but no one wants to pay the DEM insane clown posse taxes. That she voted for. Brucker will
next run for County Legislature in Niskayuna/Glenville and lose. Soon we will have two Proctor's puppets Johnson and Perazzo running both the City and County into bankruptcy.
Raise taxes on the people so King Morris can make over $200,000 for having flop after flop. Serving Proctor's never the taxpayers ladies-no?

I took that back, afterward, I lost my head there for a moment. I do think we need to get some kind of lawsuit going to stop the diversion of our tax dollars from their intended purposes. I would like to see something done about all the phony NFP's, but Cuomo started to work on that as AG, and dropped it when he became governor. So many of our politicians use the NFPs as back-up, so they can get the out of line kind of salaries they think they deserve, that nobody in public elected office is going to blow up that safety net.
Part of the problem, a large part, is that with the worldwide financial meltdown, there are so few well-paying jobs available any more, public jobs are paying not only more but way more than other jobs, you have these incompetents hanging on to their lifestyles, making it so bad for everybody else, nobody wants to run against them, because nobody with enough talent and determination and work ethic to make it outside of government has any reason to want that job. You are only getting hacks who want to ride it down. We were lucky to get Roger Hull. I don't think he exactly lives in the real world either, but he did not need the job, he wanted it for the challenge, and although his involvement with metroplex was not a good thing, imo, if he could keep that going while fixing our taxes and delivering services we pay for, more power to him.
