Tracking the criminals? You find the original owner, and it makes police work easier? Gee, I did not know that. So, you report your gun stolen, and down the road, it is used to shoot someone in Schenectady, and they don't know who did the shooting, but somehow they can tell that the bullets that they may or may not find came from a gun stolen from some other place, so that helps to solve the crime? Or prevent it? I don't get it, just like I don't get how Proctor's is "good for" Schenectady.
I realize that you don't get it... Maybe this will help you "get it"...
New Gun Control Database Helping Police Crack Down on Crime
Quoted Text
A new program has been created by the ATF aimed at cracking down on crime by helping law enforcement link guns to crimes and criminals.
Localities across the state can share resources with a gun database that tracks what types of guns were used in different crimes.
Esther Hyatt with the Petersburg Police Department says before the system if a gun was used in a crime in Petersburg, and was then used in another crime in another city, officers from that jurisdiction wouldn't have any idea that that gun was connected to another crime.
"Sometimes people don't know how a gun got to an individual that currently had it, even in a crime or even in their home, and every gun, just like every item, has a history," she says. "It gives us the power to get more information not just from our jurisdiction but we can cross check with other localities.
Petersburg is just one of the localities participating, saying the system could be used to piece together and solve many cases, but only if many jurisdictions decide to join.

This can only connect a crime not stop it from occurring, it doesn't crack down on crime one bit. Its good for evidence but then even this old technology doesn't hold up in court much.

the POLICE don't crack down on crime.....the sentences handed out are the whips.....
police are just that....POLICE....they ARE NOT judge and jury......they ask for more tools....tools for what? they are political cogs just like government workers.....

Read the comment by "Becky" after the article. And then re-read my comment and tell me how that would work, exactly? Just having somebody in Petersburg SAY that this thing is a help in crime solving, does not make it so. Petersburg is saying it COULD be used, if other areas join, there are a lot of things that COULD happen, but are not likely to. This is a spy network for a police state they are talking about, and as I stated above, it would not help prevent or solve these crimes here. The toady in Petersburg no doubt got a lot of federal dollars for their department in a high crime area, for saying that.

If a criminal is found with an unlicensed pistol in Schdy, and in the database the gun is found to be stolen from Utica NY. At the same general time of the theft, an unsolved murder happened in Utica, same caliber gun. Instead of finding some minor criminal with a illegal unlicensed gun, you now compare the murder rounds to this gun and determine that it is the same gun.
A. The criminal may have committed the Utica murder B. The Criminal may lead you to who sold you the gun which may lead to the murderer.
Now to your statement: This can only connect a crime not stop it from occurring, it doesn't crack down on crime one bit. You recover the stolen gun... and with that and other evidence you convict the man possessing the gun of murder. or He leads you to the murderer.
Either way it stops further crime from occurring by leading to the arrest of the murderer.

Your whole case is on the premise that they catch a person with the murder weapon, if the killer dumps the gun after the crime is committed absent of finger prints all you have is a killer gun not the one who pulled the trigger.
and as I said most stolen guns have the numbers removed, they can try to match the fingerprints of the actual bullets and casings but even this is well known and people just swap out the firing pin and alter the rifling in the barrel making it damn near impossible to identify or track.

Box will still think that registering guns will catch criminals but they will just catch the guns and the killers will go out and find another unregistered illegal gun.

Reminds me off the idiot plan to make the firing pin impress a serial number on the primer, many on the left praised the idea until someone asked what if a killer grabs spent casings at a range and tosses them at a crime scene, ooops they didn't think about that scenario

that's assuming the murderer is going to murderer again.....stopping further crime.....hhhhmmmmm
if you speak up for yourself and deter another human from degrading you/verbally abusing you etc it works
if someone takes your voice and say they will speak for you to deter another human from degrading you etc does it work?

That makes as much sense as your previous posts.
