Attempted robbery at gunpoint, gun held to the guys head,
Three kids. Never caught. In two years since it happened, nothing has been in the paper.
The victim asks the police what happened, he never saw it in the paper Response from the police was that if all this stuff was in the paper, no one would live in the city
The victim "broke the story" on Paul's show this morning.

This happens ALL the time in Schenectady!! ROTTENdam is getting just as bad!!
However....word of mouth, talk radio and blogs like this apparently are getting the message out there....cause their ain't nobody buying in Schenectady!!!
obviously the gazetto ain't doin so good at being the water boy for Schenectady's powers that be.

Why do you think police refuse to live here? Taxes and crime, same as anyone. It's a myth that Saratoga County schools offer anything better than Schenectady schools, btw. It's interesting, for decades the news media lead the Schenectady bashing, now they're trying to back pedal and underreport crime. There is also a lot that would not rise to the level of crime, that you would not want your parents or children to be exposed to. Remember rp's experience with the bottle return at Price Chopper? Menacing, littering, vandalism. People from over Becker Street way race cars in the street over this way at night. I notice the paper took a blame the victim approach toward the incident in the theater. It is so easy for people who don't live here or don't go to these places to pontificate. Did anyone else hear about a neighborhood bar full of mostly older people, a transplanted jerk from downstate threatening patrons with a SAMURAI SWORD, because he misplaced his cell phone while intoxicated? Because that's what you do, evidently, downstate, you get drunk and misplace something you start killing people until you remember where you put it. We still are soliciting more of these types, btw.

Twice yesterday, I heard multiple emergency vehicles. Late last night, a helicopter at a high rate of speed. No explanation. People who have everyday emergencies usually present themselves at the emergency room without sirens wailing. Maybe "renaissance" is one of those words with more than one meaning, and maybe another meaning is "armageddon" or something like that.
I live in a relatively low crime area compared to Schdy. Most days there are helicopters overhead, usually they are medivac flights from the hospital. Sometimes they are State Police helicopters, military flights or unknown.
I live on an 'access route' in my area, so most police, ambulance and fire vehicles go by my home if they are called to this part of town.
Much of the "crime" is not reported in the news, either because it's a busy news day or it's not in time to beat the deadline for the paper.
I don't consider it some kind of conspiracy when I hear a helicopter, see the police, or learn of a less serious crime that's not reported in the paper.

Um, Box, I don't consider it a conspiracy, I just know for fact that even allowing for proximity to the hospital, I hear an unusual and increasing number of sirens. Even if everyone visiting the emergency room went by ambulance, that would be ONE siren at a time. I hear paramedics, fire trucks, and more than one police car all at the same time, on a fairly frequent basis. Then, when I look in the paper to see what all the fuss was about, nothing. A busy news day, the paper is full of 'features' on a regular basis, there is room for real news, that is presumably why they call it a "newspaper". As for the news deadline, it used to make the papers if it happened before six a.m. And what about the online sites, that get updated all day long? I like to have a realistic idea of what is going on in my own community. I knew a young man who bought a house a few years back, I found out that he had considered buying a house in Schenectady, but he didn't because he did not know the neighborhoods. If our news media presented an accurate picture of what really happens, maybe more people would be willing to take a chance on this city. Nothing is worse than the idea that there is stuff going on that gets covered up, except maybe when people are uninformed and put themselves in harm's way. You know what? Since I'm the one who lives here, and pays for the place, the uninformed crowd really shouldn't judge me.

Judge you?
I proposed that all sirens are not crime. All helicopters are not crime. All crimes are not newsworthy.
A few weeks back there was an accident nearby. Two ambulances were used to transport the injured. Several police cars were there and the police directing traffic. Eventually one helicopter was used from the hospital... and nothing in the paper. Is every car wreck a newsworthy event? I don't think so.

Schenectady is a sh!t hole and the rest of the county is following suit!!

Did I even say that all sirens are crime? All multiple sirens are AN EMERGENCY. Yes, I think anything big enough to require multiple EMERGENCY VEHICLES is newsworthy. There is nothing wrong with being informed, Patches is right. I also think that when it comes budget time, and knowing that people are losing their homes due to the high taxes, it is imperative for good citizens to know exactly how our resources are being used. If we have frequent arson fires, then we'd better make sure the fire department isn't being shortchanged in the budget, to pay for some unnecessary crony's raise. Same with the police department. Can they be effective, when needed, if the city government puts us in such a hole that they try to balance the budget by having the police drive clunkers, because we can't come up with the money for new ones? If you were a cop in Schenectady, wouldn't you want the people to know what your job was like, when they make decisions that affect your livelihood? BTW, car wrecks are important. What caused the wreck? Could it have been avoided? Was someone not doing her or his job? Is drunk/reckless/unlicensed driving on the increase? Should I tell my younger drivers to avoid a certain road? We pay for car crashes, one way or another.
This board complains about the Gazette now, can you imagine how they'd howl if the front page headlined "fender benders" and a "911 call because a woman's parakeet escaped" and flew away.

agree....it's like the report about the 9 and 10 year olds that took a tractor ride and dumped stuff in gas tanks of other equipment....
why does the public need to know...we worry about NSA but we are our own nsa demanding that the media talks about our neighbors doings....I just hope they don't get back to those freakin' tea party listings of who had tea with whom....
the way to find out the trend is for open government with their reports....
we pay for the policing we should see the reports...not the stupid blotter that has no substance...accepting the newspaper publishing partial blotters is making folks guilty until proven innocent....tried in the publics eye

Armed robbery and assault is a bit more different then a escaped parakeet, like you admitted you don't have to worry about this stuff, you live in a nice area. The people who live in shithole Schenectady should know about the violent crimes taking place because we need to live next to it. Many crimes might of been avoided if the citizens of this city knew where and what was taking place, maybe they would have avoided the area or movie theatre and made plans for somewhere else. Lying and hiding vital information from the public to give the impression the city is somehow safe is disgusting.
