I was just at the Princetown Planning Board meeting regarding the renewal for special permit use on Becker Road for McClanes Food Distribution Warehouse Project. Several local businesses spoke in favor the project (Cuomo Pools, Tops Diner and others - full listing in the Princetown meeting minutes) citing increased tax revenue and jobs. They were misinformed about both. The jobs will be moved from the current Guilderland location to the new Rotterdam/Princetown location. McClanes will also be receiving approx. a 13 year tax break/incentive. With mounting traffic, environmental, noise, pollution, and quality of life concerns by the surrounding residents of both communities (including the superintendent of Schalmont Schools), I was shocked at the businesses stance.
Personal I am a pro business person, but a more suitable project, like offices or retail, would have a better impact on both residents of surrounding towns AND businesses. |
