Ya got me! Your right-Your right...They like Fascist too. They seem to like authoritarianism in general. Hey, Hitler won in 38...I think they selected every world leader that plunged the world into war killing millions around the globe. I think they may have left out Hirohito. |

Person of the Year 2004 For sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively), for reshaping the rules of politics to fit his ten-gallon-hat leadership style and for persuading a majority of voters that he deserved to be in the White House for another four years, George W. Bush is TIME's 2004 Person of the Year inShare Prev 20 of 39 Next VIEW ALL In Memoriam Yasser Arafat By Johanna McGearySunday, Dec. 19, 2004 dek GENEVIEVE CHAUVEL / CORBIS The crude joke in Israel is that Yasser Arafat deserves a second Nobel Peace Prize for dying. Arafat, felled by a mysterious illness, had spent his early career championing the cause of Palestinian nationhood. But his final legacy was shaped by his refusal to accept compromises that could have achieved that dream. The kaffiyeh-clad fighter drove the Palestinian cause onto the global agenda through brute violence and canny propaganda. As a revolutionary in exile, he invented TV terrorism and tenaciously waged long-distance guerrilla war. Though Palestinians never stopped loving him for his devotion to their cause, they might have fared better under a more flexible ruler. When Arafat came home to the occupied territories as chairman of a constricted Palestinian Authority, he wasted the respect of his citizens with his corrupt, authoritarian rule. As a diplomat, he left a lamentable trail of missed opportunities. He wanted history to revere him as the founding father of Palestine, but his inability to renounce violence cost him and the Palestinians the international allies they needed to achieve independence. Israel and the U.S. finally cast him out as a negotiating partner. Small wonder, then, that those he led and those who loathed him see in his death the best chance in years to make peace. Person of the Year 2010 For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them, for creating a new system of exchanging information and for changing how we live our lives, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is TIME's 2010 Person of the Year inShare 9 Prev Next VIEW ALL People Who Mattered Benjamin Netanyahu dek Bernat Armangue / Pool / Reuters Correction Appended: Dec. 17, 2010 Highs: The Israeli Prime Minister spent a year assiduously deflecting U.S. pressure on Tel Aviv to move peace talks with the Palestinians forward, while shoring up his own right-wing domestic power base. By December, reports suggested that Washington had given up on pressuring Netanyahu's government to freeze settlement construction in the West Bank — a pre-condition to any direct talks with the Palestinians — after months of diplomatic wrangling with Tel Aviv. Many suggest Netanyahu's administration, backed by some of the more hawkish and far-right factions in the Israeli political spectrum, has little interest in actually reaching a lasting accord with the Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories. Lows: Netanyahu was criticized abroad for supporting a proposed loyalty oath that would compel newly naturalized citizens to pledge allegiance to Israel as a "Jewish" state. Netanyahu also received a lot of flak after Israeli troops intercepted a flotilla of aid ships carrying relief supplies to Gaza on May 31; nine activists aboard the ships died after resisting the Israeli soldiers boarding their vessels. But his biggest domestic challenge came in the beginning of December, when a fire raging in the Carmel forest killed 43 people, forced the evacuation of 17,000, and led to condemnation of the country's emergency forces as well as calls for Netanyahu's resignation. Police eventually identified a 14-year-old boy who tossed coals from his hookah into the woods as the instigator of the deadly blaze. —Ishaan Tharoor Read more: Benjamin Netanyahu - Person of the Year 2010 - TIME http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2036683_2036767_2037326,00.html #ixzz2nN8JlhoM
