SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Schenectady Police tell NEWS10 ABC dispatch received a call from a young child on Sunday threatening to blow up the Yates Magnet Elementary School on Monday morning.

Lt. McCracken with Schenectady Police says 911 dispatchers received the call from a young child that sounded to be around 7 to 9-years-old saying that he was going to blow the school up.

Schenectady Police say the School District was notified on Monday morning about the bomb threat, at which time they decided to evacuate Yates Elementary Magnet School.

Schenectady Police conducted a search using K-9 units but did not find any evidence of a credible threat.

Police say the school was turned back over to the district shortly before 10 a.m. and students were able to go back into the school.

During the threat investigation students grades K through 6th were moved to a secret safe location. School Superintendent Larry Spring says some parents did come to that location to sign their children out for the remainder of the day.

Many parents wondered why the school was not notified on Sunday when the threat was made. NEWS10 spoke with Lt. McCracken, who responded saying: "I can tell you that there was a communication error, but as soon as I was aware of the situation this morning I contacted the school district. I have no further comment."

Schenectady Police say they are trying to identify the child that made the threat, as they do have the 911 call recording. The investigation is ongoing.

Yes, the mayor and his team in the city are doing such a wonderful job

The mayor and the DEMS are so focused on downtown while IGNORING the RESIDENTS, the TAXPAYERS, that the mayor appoints a NON-RESIDENT as police chief and the police department can't even make sure the school district knows about a threat to one of the schools.

It's time the mayor and his dems start IGNORING DOWNTOWN, forget about downtown and start concentrating on THE CITY.   The "city" is the residents and their neighborhoods and the taxpayers.

If Schenectady were an abortion clinic, they would efficiently set up your appointment in ten months.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The school should have been "swept" before any students even showed up for school. Also when you make a 911 call does it not
automatically pick up your address?  Or if a cell phone would not the number show up?

Schenectady police department seems to be behind other police departments as far as caller ID is concerned, but I don't know about 911. Our leaders have no problem with leaving our departments with horse and buggy era equipment, while the venture into other important areas such as subsidizing "high-end" (overpriced) housing to replace our residents with people they like better.
I wonder if whoever took the call decided it wasn't worth alerting anybody over a stupid kid's prank call, but then when someone else learned of it they had to follow procedure.
