Wait a minute... how did the person who created this sketch know what was going to happen in the future, in Schenectady, New York? Except the flowers didn't cost two dollars, I know where they came from...
Pretty sad.

I wonder if someone else just got shot, sounded like someone fired 4-5 rounds off.

A family party, obviously with quite a number of people in attendance, it even referenced kids.

But no one saw the shooter(s)?

Obit today, doesn't include listing his career.

A 38-year-old city man was arrested in Brooklyn Wednesday and charged in the fatal shooting of a local man late last month, city police said.

Emmanuel F. Martinez was arrested on murder charges by U.S. Marshals, police said. He is accused of shooting Jose "Mikey" Torres, 24, and Torres' brother, Luis Gomez, 31 at 9:41 p.m., Aug. 30, at 1633 Becker St., police said. A family party was under way at the residence.

Torres later died at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Gomez was treated and released.

Martinez was charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Martinez also faces charges on a city warrant for third-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Martinez is in the city lockup pending his arraignment Thursday in city court.

The Gazette is reporting a shooting last night on Duane Avenue. Non-life threatening injuries. It's strange, sometimes I hear multiple emergency vehicles and don't find out what happened, last night was fairly quiet once the rain let up. Yet a shooting.
Notice the arrestee from Brooklyn. People have been arguing with me since the 1980's that we don't have a problem with people from the city traveling back and forth committing crimes. A lot of it stems from the fact that women with children, seeking welfare benefits, were directed to come here. Once they had free places to stay, the drug dealers made Schenectady a regular hangout. Now we have the kids, all grown up, somehow blaming Schenectady for their rather miserable lives. Of course, they don't really have the perspective to see that adults should not be bringing their feuds to family gatherings with little ones present.

It is and it isn't, in that the local dealers tend to be small time, and if they didn't have government money coming in, they couldn't afford life's little luxuries such as leased automobiles that are probably about to be repo'd anyhow.
I remember, way back when, a local guy from a shady family got involved with selling drugs, when it was just starting to get lucrative. He thought he was going to move into the big time. Lo and behold, one day, out of the blue, unknown individuals gave him the beating of his life. At least, he told police he didn't know who they were.
The kids see all these displays of money, and it gives them the wrong ideas. Nowadays if you encroach on someone else's territory, they just shoot you. I guess all these guys think that they are going to be one of the few who make it to the top of their "profession".
