Anyone remember Robert Preston in The Music Man? He played Harold Hill, a con man. We could do a remake of that musical, set it in Schenectady, and show it at Proctor's, but it would have to be a combination of The Music Man and Lord of the Rings, to explain the new Harold Hill character.
Update! Circus! Circus! No not at City Hall but the European Circus at Morris'. Another giant bomb. Even the Gazetto admitted that the crowds were "modest"-translation nonexistent. No one wants to see a European Circus instead of going to Saratoga? You know it has limited appeal so book it for two weeks. More work done by the working together team of Perazo and Johnson{D-Proctor's}.
SCHENECTADY : Crowds modest for ‘Cirkopolis’ at Proctors BY KELLY DE LA ROCHA Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Kelly de la Rocha at 395-3040 or kdelarocha@dailygazette.net.
"Cirque Eloize’s “Cirkopolis” drew modest crowds to Proctors during its 2 /2-week run, which ended Saturday, but Proctors CEO Philip Morris said summer camps associated with the show were standing-room-only. Schenectady has not traditionally been known as a summer destination, but Proctors hoped to draw crowds to the city with the troupe’s mix of dance, acrobatics and theater. “We thought we were taking a gamble, trying to make a change in how people think of Schenectady and downtowns and summers,” Morris said, conceding that Proctors will have to work on growing audience numbers for next summer, when Cirque Eloize returns. The Montreal-based troupe of acrobats, jugglers and rope climbers has contracted to entertain Proctors’ patrons for fi ve consecutive summers. Morris did not have attendance figures readily available for the Cirkopolis performances, but said the production drew fewer people per show than prior Cirque Eloize events at Proctors have. Those shows have never had more than two or three consecutive performances, while this summer’s run had 13 or 14, he noted. The weeklong “The Cirque Experience” summer camps, taught this month by Cirque staff members at Proctors’ School of the Performing Arts, went exceptionally well, Morris said, citing sold-out sessions for both high-schoolers and middleschoolers. Seventy-seven adults also attended the camp. “We are really happy and frankly think we need to grow that part of it substantially,” he said. "
What the heck does Morris care if this didn't make money?!? All he has to do is get a free lunch with Gillen & McCheesy and get a few more taxpayer-paid-million-dollar-grants.

And of course, King Phillip will be looking for more tax handouts to cover the cost of the admissions that were not sold.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Proctor's has always done well during its regular season September through May. Now it is wisely expanding its programming with a summer season .. taking advantage of those summer tourists from the mountains and lakes around us. So while Saratoga can at best only be the "August place to be" --- Schenectady County is THE Renaissance place to be ALL YEAR ROUND.

The vast majority of people going to the mountains and lakes are NOT coming to Proctors and I DEFY you to provide an ounce of EVIDENCE that they are doing do.
TOTAL SILENCE (NO RESPONSE,not a teeny weeny shred of proof to support what he claims)
Just more cheerleading for the wild uncontrolled spending of the taxpayer's money

NONE....NADA.....NOT ONE of ANY arts program can stand on it's own!!!! NONE!!! ANYWHERE!!!
They ALL are being mainly supported with taxpayer's money.
Everytime someone mentions cutting back on 'the arts'........Hollywood comes out of their corrupt shell and makes it POLITICAL!!!!

Nobody is driving from Saratoga or the Adirondacks for Proctor's. The sooner we stop wasting taxing money on the "arts" and Metrograft schemes the better. Look at Gillespie House. $1,000,000 dumped into a tourist center that never even opened. But it stabilized property values on Karen Johnson's block so it was a "good deal". Proctor's should concentrate on musicals from the Fall to Spring and stop trying experimental plays and acid circuses. No other County is stunad enough to raise the regressive sales tax to fund millionaire developers.
I happen to know a number of people who summer in the Great Sacandaga, Lake George, Lake Luzerne and, also, the Catskill areas who DO travel to Schenectady specifically to go to Proctor's. These are people who live the rest of the year in other states. I also know people who live in South Carolina and North Carolina who came to Schenectady specifically to see a particular show at Proctor's.
Proctor's is a jewel in the crown which is Downtown Schenectady, and I have no problem supporting it with my hard earned tax dollars and ticket purchases.

Two big fairy tales.
"A number of people" hardly fills up the theater. Not saying that NO ONE comes, but we all know that Proctors does NOT fill up the theaters, it IS losing money, best proof positive, 1,000% proof, is that the vast majority of volunteers are elderly on fixed incomes and the dictator King Philip is taking their money by force! After getting tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to make changes to the theater, and after STEALING money from financially struggling homeowners in the city via getting the city to STEAL the homeowners money by FORCING them to pay Proctor's tax bill (while many lose their own homes because they cannot afford to pay downtown's taxes), and then King Philip STEALING from city homeowners through the second STAR exemption, Proctors is still doing so poorly financially that the dictator King Philip orders volunteers, most of whom are elderly on low incomes in the city, to pay in order to volunteer.
Your hard earned tax dollars??????
You are NOT a taxpayer. You do NOT own a house and pay Proctors's taxes. You do NOT have a job thus do NOT pay income taxes nor SS. Two mommies provide for you so even when you go out to eat it is not YOU who is paying the few pennies in sales tax on your meal.
By the speaking of fairy tales, quite some time ago YOU stated that the county taxes are the lowest in 50 years. Have you found any EVIDENCE to prove that is the truth yet?????? Of course NOT because it's a big fairy tale. How's your insurance license by the way?

I know for a fact MC that those 2 people had a great time at proctors LOL.
Which 2 people?

It is taxpayer money to the tune of tens and tens and tens of millions that paid for all of Proctors renovations and expansion.
It is taxpayer money that pays the property and school tax bills for Proctors.
It is taxpayer money, via two line items in the county budget, that pays Kin Philips salary (two line items equivalent to the total of Morris' salary).
Where are all the detailed financial reports? Where are the audits.
As it is taxpayer money, their MUST be extremely highly detailed reports made public and given to all the taxpayers to state every penny of their tax dollars. Further, as all this Proctors work was to improve the city, the reports MUST state the effect (of the use of taxpayer money) on the city's tax base, the property values in the city, the desirability of people to buy a house IN the city and live IN the city (which would be proven by the numbers of home sales, their prices, the comparison to years past, the amount of time it takes for a house to sell, etc), the effect on the neighborhods and the lives of the people, and the tax bills. Such reports should list each and every show, day by day, and state the total attendance at each show. Such report must detail the rents taken in from other businesses, must state the money taken in in the for-profit business known as Key Hall and the extraordinariliy lavish AND EXPENSIVE big bucks weddings and other affairs and explain how wedding bankquets should be considered not-for-profit especially when they are on the par with any for-profit location. The report must list each and every employee's salary, how much Morris pays for health insurance for the employees and what is the level of benefits provided in the insurance. Also how much is he getting from his government TV channels. Each and every employees salary and benefits MUST be stated employee by employee.
And that's just for starters.
The taxpayers do indeed have a BIRTHRIGHT ENTITLEMENT to have this information since it's the taxpayers money.
