I have been hearing a lot, on television, that women are dying from overdoses of the stronger pain medications, which I guess means that the government has to do something, so this should get us clamoring for more regulation or at least accepting it because we can't have women dying, right?
So I was reading the blog by that woman who works with all the poor kids, and she says she has to sign some kind of form for Ellis Hospital before she can have her pain medication for bona fide medical conditions, only she has to promise not to give any of her medicine to anyone else? How on earth would sharing her medicine cause her to overdose, and why would an elderly woman in pain give her medication away anyway? Nobody becomes an addict and OD's from a few pills caged from a legitimate patient. How stupid is that, and how invasive of this woman's doctor-patient relationship, etc. etc?
I personally experienced a slightly similar problem. I sometimes experience prolonged insomnia. I went to my doctor , I used Ambien once in the past, it doesn't work too well but it is better than staying awake all night. Well, some celebrities and others have used Ambien irresponsibly, like Kerry Kennedy, and also it has been discovered that the standard dose is probably too strong for women. So now, if you ask your doctor for Ambien it is the equivalent of asking for heroin. They might dole out a few pills, but it won't be enough to do you any good. You will be treated like a potential criminal. Thanks, Kennedys. The thing is, these abusers will still get all the pills of any kind they want. If I wanted some kind of illicit drug I could do that for myself, easy. Thanks, government.

Madame X I know exactly how you feel.

I am on an anti anxiety medication, I have been on it 14 years now. Because it is a "controlled substance" you have to show ID  when you pick it up.
Now I know some do abuse it BUT I have been going to the same pharmacy Price Chopper for 13 years and first they look at you like you have two
heads, then they ask your date of birth, ok fine, so then you ask how long till it's ready and they'll say 20 minutes or more, fine I have to do some
shopping , but wait they have to "check" in the computer to make sure everything is "ok"

There is one pharmacist haven't seen him the past two times I got my prescription but would say they did not have enough to fill it come back in a few
days, I would call the next morning and sure enough they had it, he did this a few times until I complained to both the manager and the main
headquarters.

Medicare does not pay for any of my medications even though I have part D.

Pay for my meds out of pocket.

Now my cousin may he RIP : (   he was on Medicaid and on soooooo many medications, he was getting so much Xanax he was selling them on the
street.

It's the people who abuse the medications AND the system that make doctors and pharmacists treat all of us like criminals.

I had a friend who worked for a big box pharmacy for years as a pharmacy tech.
Every customer, even those who were well known and were regular customers, would be asked:
"date of birth", then they would enter the data into the computer, then "do you want to wait it
will be (5 - 20) minutes."

boy naiveness is rampant on this subject......happen to know that drugs are freely sold on the street and you can get as
many as you can afford or the dealer will put it on your tab......now, Psychiatrists they dole out scrpts like it was candy...all you have to
say......it's not working....and out goes another script.  in some cases they are refillable after a time period....with the new script and
the old pills.....now you have somewhat of a cocktail....then, you go doctor shopping.....ask him for a script for something narcotic.....
ok....you got it.....now you have three different kinds of drugs.....and on and on it goes

So, if someone is hell bent on overdosing....it can happen....now the young people drink and take drugs...take anything they can buy
from the street...don't care that it may be infested with something that is not compatible with alcohol.....ooops...overdose by mistake....and it's deadly....

so before you go judging about anyone taking pills and overdosing...do your homework....just read the paper in this area....you may be
surprised....with all the street drugs available...you would think that the police would catch them....well, not so true....the dealers  are
a lot smarter than anyone thinks....they will even deliver to your home....meet you anywhere.....and call you if they haven't heard from
you in awhile....

The addiction can come easily and readily...and then there could be an overdose...and this is with all ages, men and women...parents ...teens.....grandparents., whoever...

The only way to stamp out drugs is to start with the pharmecutical companies....they make billions and everyone suffers.....
there really is no set rule in  place to stop the over scripting of drugs...there is not much control as it has been stated by the
government.

Could go on and on......how do I know???....when you know an addict.....you catch on very quickly how the drug trade evolves to where
someone can overdose....

Box I have no problem being asked my birthdate, its the attitude of the pharmacists themselves.

Now I went to the "nicer" Price Chopper the other day with my brother, dropped of the script, lady very polite, didn't ask for ID or act like anything was
"amiss"

Patches yup. With my cousin the docs KNEW he was an alcoholic and into street drugs yet they prescribed him so many heavy duty drugs made my
stomach roll.

He passed away young, he didn't have to. His so called friends cleaned up the place before calling 911 : (

I've never witnessed such an illogical thought process.  Alcohol prohibition was tried, the government legislated "morality", outlawing suppliers didnt eliminate the demand. I just created violent street gangs.   Lobbiest don't force people to consume drugs.  Stop looking for some higher government power to correct individual behavior.  That type of magical thinking is what keeps this problem going.  "I'm an addict because a lobbyist prevented my masters in government from passing a law restricting my legal access to a drug".

I don't want to see cigarettes outlawed, I just want the addicts to pay the entire cost of their addiction.

Today the state loses $4.75 per pack on legal cigarettes.  Don't ban them, just charge the actual cost and
let the taxpayers off the hook for their drug habit.

Let them make their 'bad choice'... let them also pay the full cost of that choice.

I guess only conservative radio talk show hosts are considered 'Druggy'...Right Box?

Madam X. You have to first understand and grasp the realization that the vast majority of 'pain killers' are really just a legal form of heroin.

If you don't know anything about opiates, I suggest you do some serious research on it.
