I heard someone in the friends club will be leasing the property, that is why they lost the lease
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
That would make sense. That they stuck it out through tragedy, awful street conditions, the disruption of construction, only to leave at the point there was light at the end of the tunnel, that made less sense. If the rumor is true, that would be similar to what happened to the Pizza King. He kept on serving the public when the street outside his business looked like Beirut, only to find he was not going to be a participant in the "renaissance" after all. The pattern fits.
A beer garden across from an alcohol treatment facility.
Nicholaus' was there from 1901 (when the building was built) to 1975. Long before the alcohol treatment center was even thought of.
There is no German restaurant left in Schenectady County ... and only 2 "marginally" German restaurants left within 25 miles or so. You have to go to the Catskills or Hudson Valley to get decent German food. And quite frankly, German cuisine -- along with Polish and Scandinavian cuisine -- is far superior to anything else out there.

I am well aware of when the German restaurant was at that corner. If a beer garden were to go on that corner NOW, it would be across the street from an alcohol treatment facility. German cuisine fell out of favor, for some reason. It is due for a comeback.

The city will probably borrow a million dollars to demolish the Bistro, Olenders, the Army Navy building and the other buildings down to the ARC, and sell the property to Galesi for a dollar.
And this is probably why DV has become so vocal on this thread.
Like Grammy said, probably a 'friends and family' member bought the building for a quarter, will get $2 million in Plex money and a lifetime of tax exemptions to run yet another bar/restaurant.
Wait for the next Gillen-Plex-Rag-Release informing us of the wonderful job he's doing giving away more business property for nothing.
Once Erie is done, regardless of how stupid it was to waste so much taxpayer money... It will look nice, and Gillen can continue his great giveaway of public moneys....
And that corner could become very valuable. There is all sorts of space available around that building for parking now, and heck they could even have a business with a drive thru with the tearing down of the building right next to it.
I really think someone needs to pack up all the circumstantial evidence we have here about corruption and send it to the NYS AG.
That building was a German restaurant and beer garden for years. It would be great if someone would put something like that in there, and then take down the Olenders and build a multi-story building with nice facades facing BOTH State and Erie Blvd. 1st floor retail, 2nd floor office space and 3rd and above residential condos.
That will never happen.
Galesi and Golub will have it demolished and build something exempt to replace it.
FYI< it appears the Bistro folks just bought Elda's on Lark Street. Good for them.
So they will STILL have TWO locations. Leave Schenectady for greener pastures.
But notice that a certan Dem who claims there's a renaissance will NOT explain what this renaissance is, he will NOT address or speak about the falling tax base, falling home values, falling home sales, falling home sale prices and increasing taxes. He pretends to not read those posts. Easier to be a coward and pretend ignorance than to speak about the FACTS based on the EVIDENCE.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Maurice's used to be in the Bistro location. They abandoned downtown and moved to Woodlawn on State St. just before Bumpy's, on the left.

Maurice's also had a place in Colonie, and closed that one. Businesses come and go -- Businesses move to new locations. A lot has to do with the management and, also, with the demand for the product or service being offered.
Personally, I like Thai cuisine but there may not have been enough demand at that location for Thai cuisine. Lack of parking would also pose a problem.

There goes his wild imagination AGAIN.
Say it could have to do with management, yet management is obviously very good since they are keeping another location open AND opening another. SO MANAGEMENT IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE
Then try to use lack of parking. What? HIS BUDDY DEMS created all those parking lots, made all kinds of on-street parking, and there was more than ample parking on Erie Blvd, so PARKING IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE.
Lack of demand? What? No people downtown? But HIS BUDDY DEMS allegedlly brought oh so many people to downtown, and supposedly people are coming from far and near to go to the taxpayer theater. You mean that the alleged multitudes of crowds that come to Schenectady simply don't like the product but the people that to to Colonie or Albany do? Talk about trying in desperation to come up with some logical excuse. so LACK OF DEMAND IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE.
Just cannot accept the FACT that businesses are leaving downtown because the dems and their rich cronies are ruining the city as evidenced by the DRASTICALLY FALLING tax base, falling home values, falling home sales, falling home sale prices, increasing taxes, reduction of essential services. And DV REFUSES to to address these FACTS.
Do we repeat ourselves? Yes. But remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
