Bangkok Bistro in Schenectady, NY will close at the end of business today.
The Thai-fusion restaurant, which opened six years ago, will continue to operate its Colonie location on Central Avenue.
Owner William Phan said Tuesday on his Facebook page that the Schenectady building’s lease is up today, but he did not explain why he was closing.
“I will be closing our Schenectady location after 6 great years in business. I want to thank all our customers, new friends I’ve made throughout the years, staff and family for an amazing run,” Phan posted on his Facebook wall. The restaurant is located at the corner of Erie Boulevard and State Street.
Phan bought the Schenectady Bangkok Bistro in 2007 along with his brother-in-law Israel “Bobby” Silva, and in 2011 they opened a second Bangkok Bistro on Central Avenue in Colonie.
Silva died in June 2012 in a tragic accident at the Schenectady Bangkok Bistro after his head became lodged in a dumbwaiter in the restaurant’s basement.
Oh where, oh where is the cheerleader for downtown
YET ANOTHER downtown business CLOSING. Since the property itself does NOT have tax exemptions, is it likely that the property owner had to raise the rent in order to pay the taxes on the property PLUS pay for the taxes of all the plex restaurants?
Waiting to read the cheerleader's spin on this one, always trying in DESPERATION for a valid excuse as to why businesses close--a reason that has nothing to do with plex and the dems, while at the same time ANY business that opens without even the remotest connection to plex and the dems he tries in DESPERATION to find how such an opening occured because of polex and his beloved dems and plex.
Notice the FACT, let's see how he addresses the FACT:

Of course, the comment will include
"we await the opening of yet another delightful restaurant in that location, information I cannot divulge at the current time; the renaissance continues on and on, the city is improving, all praise to Mayor Mccarthy..."
etc meaning the ex mayor of BS, the savage woman, death Ray, and all the dem cronies.

It is NOT a safe area! There are break-ins and vandalizm ALL the time.....not to mention the lucrative drug business. Ya just never read about this stuff in the gazetto!!

Too bad. Does anyone else think that Dresden, post-WWII road adjacent to the business had any effect on the public's willingness to give them repeat business? Also, was there some sort of violent incident outside of there one night? The place opposite theirs would have a dampening effect as well, wouldn't it? Some people are afraid of rehab types. That was a nice-looking place, wasn't it? A good use for a historic, canal-side structure. Maybe McCheeseand Co. could give some connected person a lot of money to knock it down and we could have another messy parking lot on a main corner.
It could be the accident that is behind it too. I can't imagine after witnessing you brother and business partner die gruesomely there that your have the warm fuzzies for the place.
PRobably got an offer from Galesi he couldn't refuse....

It is difficult enough for a small business person to run a business anywhere. Add to that the difficulties of running more than one location simultaneous and the tragic death of his brother and partner, and one can understand that this was probably a good personal decision as well as a good business decision.
The topic line is misleading (most likely due to nefarious intentions on the part of the poster), as well as misspelled. because legally the business "Bangkok Thai" still exists, it is now just at one location and not two.
Shame on those who try to make something political out of this and/or use it to launch personal attacks.

Oh crap I misspelled a word, I should be banned.
As for the topic line that's how it was reported in the news, if you think it's misleading call the paper.
And sort of on topic, my son drove me to Rotterdam Mall today and going up Broadway noticed so many places boarded up AND so many houses for sale on Campbell Ave People are fleeing the city. (well trying to if they could sell their homes)

Gee DV, I know you will NOT address this, but despite everything, the business WILL STILL exist OUTSIDE of Schenectady. It is ONLY the downtown Schenectady store that is closing.
ANOTHER TAXPAYING downtown business is CLOSING it's downtown location. What do you say about THAT, DV??????? ONLY the downtown Schenectady location.
YOU said it's difficult enough to run a small business. Explain WHY all the businesses owned by the political cronies of YOUR BUDDY DEMS are in business and getting richer and still not paying taxes??????
OF COURSE DV WILL NOT ADDRESS THOSE FACTS!!!!!!

The city will probably borrow a million dollars to demolish the Bistro, Olenders, the Army Navy building and the other buildings down to the ARC, and sell the property to Galesi for a dollar.
That building was a German restaurant and beer garden for years. It would be great if someone would put something like that in there, and then take down the Olenders and build a multi-story building with nice facades facing BOTH State and Erie Blvd. 1st floor retail, 2nd floor office space and 3rd and above residential condos.

Paid for by the taxpayers of course, right DV?
And property taxes and school taxes paid for by the taxpayers also, right DV?
How about all the other properties that the taxpayers have paid for - where is all that retail that was supposed to come downtown? Where are the stores?
And how many 2nd floors are office space AND occupied today?
And what percent of the taxpayer paid apartments are rented downtown? Please provide EVIDENCE to support your answer.
And how much more will this lower the city's tax base?
Of course, no answer, just an attempt at brown nosing the dem buddies.
Of course, DV REFUSES to speak about this taxpaying business downtown choosing to close the downtown location and only operate the business that exists OUTSIDE of Schenectady -- DV will NOT address the FACTS that the the dems in the city are favoring their rich political cronies and destroying the taxpaying businesse.
