In a new report Robert Noland of Rutgers University use concrete numbers to make the case that mass transit produces agglomeration. They report that this hidden economic value of transit could be worth anywhere from $1.5 million to $1.8 billion a year, depending on the size of the city. And the bigger the city, they find, the bigger the agglomeration benefit of expanding transit.

Politico: “Since the average Republican is significantly older than the average Democrat, far more Republicans than Democrats have died since the 2012 elections. To make matters worse, the GOP is attracting fewer first-time voters. Unless the party is able to make inroads with new voters, or discover a fountain of youth, the GOP’s slow demographic slide will continue election to election. Actuarial tables make that part clear, but just how much of a problem for the GOP is this?”
“Since it appears that no political data geek keeps track of voters who die between elections, I took it upon myself to do some basic math. And that quick back-of-the-napkin math shows that the trend could have a real effect in certain states, and make a battleground states like Florida and Ohio even harder for the Republican Party to capture.”

Americans Becoming More Liberal on Social Issues (As Republicans Move To The Right)
Gallup: “Americans are more likely now than in the early 2000s to find a variety of behaviors morally acceptable, including gay and lesbian relations, having a baby outside of marriage and sex between an unmarried man and woman. Moral acceptability of many of these issues is now at a record-high level.”

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told the Times of London “that efforts to oust Saddam Hussein and replace his tyrannical regime with democracy were unworkable, and that he had concerns about the plan from the beginning.”
Said Rumsfeld: “I’m not one who thinks that our particular template of democracy is appropriate for other countries at every moment of their histories. The idea that we could fashion a democracy in Iraq seemed to me unrealistic. I was concerned about it when I first heard those words.”

California Assemblywoman Shannon Grove (R) suggested her state’s worst drought in 1,200 years may be God’s retribution for laws providing women with access to abortions, the Huffington Post reports.
Said Grove: “Texas was in a long period of drought until Governor Perry signed the fetal pain bill. It rained that night. Now God has his hold on California.”

Just wrong? Not illegal? Invading and destroying a nation for the purpose of imposing democracy is a legal reason to kill and wound hundreds of thousands of people?
Rick Santorum Says Shootings Were Attack on Religion
Quoted Text
Rick Santorum called the church shooting in Charleston — which left nine people dead — a “crime of hate” and connected the event to a broader “assault on our religious liberty,” the Washington Post reports.
Said Santorum: “This is one of those situations where you just have to take a step back and say we — you know, you talk about the importance of prayer in this time and we’re now seeing assaults on our religious liberty we’ve never seen before. It’s a time for deeper reflection beyond this horrible situation.”

“The trend that worries conservative thinker Sabrina Schaeffer is this: Three elections ago, nearly half of all working mothers chose George W. Bush. In 2008, the share dropped to 40 percent for Sen. John McCain. By 2012, only about a third backed Mitt Romney.
Few if any of today's GOP candidates have made the needs of female breadwinners a centerpiece of their campaigns.” (Washington Post)
