The used baby clothes store in Upper Union reportedly does good business, though I never see the customers. There is a market for that kind of thing, evidently. Hey, if it pays taxes... |

it wasn't directed at the business...it was a social comment...kinda like the dollar stores popping up all over..... walmart on altamont is like a 3rd world flea market and the dollar stores and thrift shops(of which I do like) popping up all over have SET THE BAR. |

You know, Patches, that used to be the way the various immigrant groups 'came up', if they couldn't work someplace like GE they started their own small businesses in their own neighborhoods. It's different today, if you go places like central State Street, there are some small businesses struggling, but I think unfortunately they are often "fronts" and that's why they are so junky. It would be really hard to run a legit small market or whatever in a high crime area. Plus the awful taxes.

that why foreigners love America - tax avoidance
had a chance to for an international firm in southern China - if I left china for 31 days and didnt return to the US I could have been raking in the $$$$ due to no taxes - that loophole has since closed
most countries allow for dual citizenship which makes the tax free thing easier
I just loving paying county/state taxes to support those from other countries trying to figure it out for free
our leaders are fools for letting this go on - and on |

Across from the firehouse the shelving and interior systems business has a going out of business sale sign.
It's at the corner of Parklawn. |

I was driving around the Altamont Avenue area and other parts of Rotterdam the other day and I noticed an unusually high number of the do-it-yourself type FOR RENT signs, the red-and-white ones you stick in the ground. An awful lot of smaller commercial spaces are empty right now. |

I'm sorry, I"m just pointing out that these kind of small businesses have a high failure rate. We stopped there to try to buy stuff a few times, but ultimately knew we could find things much cheaper buying them on craigslist or whatnot. |
