I was supposed to go out and eat breakfast with my Dad, brother and SIL this morning but because of the cars, shouting, etc etc on my street didn't get to sleep until almost 3 am. Called the non emergency number was told they'd get a car here when they could, I called app. 1 am car came about 1:45 drove by a couple of times and did NOTHING.
My Dad had driven by my house hoping I'd be on the porch waiting for him, and when I saw him later in the day he said "I couldn't believe the garbage on your street. " I told him it was all from last night into the morning.
My brother came by to bring me to the market and said "holy shi*"
My Dad lives in Rotterdam, my brother in Guilderland.
Thankfully they do not have to live in these conditions.
The police chief had said they patrol this area. I say BULLSHI*
I want to know WHY the area around JB Park is ignored. People have spoken at the council meetings about what is going on, and NO one is listening.
1. Go to the next city council meeting and speak in the same way that woman did at a previous meeting (where she said it took cops so long). Naturally it sees like police did some for your call but rather than lack of appearance, it was lack of action. During POF, say "While I know you can't answer during POF, I expect you council reps and the mayor to provide me an explanation during your comment period at the end. As you are to represent me, the taxpayer, I expect that you will NOT pass the buck and expect me to talk to Comm Bennett in private, all residents here and viewers at home should hear your response."
P.S. Can you take a photo?
2. Classic cheerleader response is that you are a "nayboob" and "if you don't like it, then move." One cannot move if one cannot sell there house. And the issue is IF you sell your house, you most likely lose money. Recent home buyers ARE "underwater" on their mortgage in homes in the city! And that is a FACT (not a cheerleader around who can prove otherwise) which is proven by the mortgage documents (public record) and the amortization numbers.

They don't care because they don't have to live with it, they get to go back to their nice little neighborhoods and rest peacefully. To them the problem is contained and that is all they care about.

It - the trash issue - certainly is an ongoing problem in the city, and so is the apparent inability/unwillingness for the police to actually enforce the parking restrictions (one side only, park on this side on certain days and other side on other days).

With this case rpforpres is talking about the unwillingness to enforce the parks rules, if I'm not mistaken the park is supposed to be closed at 9:00PM. Its insane they allow people to blast radios and scream and yell till 3 in the morning without taking any action. That whole park is surrounded by houses and they shouldn't have to deal with that or the trash that ends up blowing onto their property.

Cops will be right there, as soon as they're done downtown looking for a person or persons not wearing any pants somewhere in the area of the Bowtie. Can't have that in our downtown. Residents be damned. Almost fell out of my chair when that call came across the scanner. There may have been two of those calls somewhat similar, not 100% on it though. Drugs might have been involved, any surprise?
the urban culture is great, and we need to RESPECT it

I agree with you on the noise issue. They have the same problem in Mont Pleasant.

IMPROVE INTERAGENCY COOPERATION - The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office is one of seven law enforcement agencies within Schenectady County. We should never lose sight of the fact that we are all parts of the whole and must work together to serve and protect the residents.
They have a Sheriff's Department cop in the main library now. It makes sense to have the cop where the people are. It has improved things. It might get a little boring for the cops, but if it gets boring that means they've succeeded. I think there should be two cars assigned to Hamilton Hill every night, that stay there. These would be extra police positions, from the Sheriff's or from grants or something. This doesn't mean regular city police would not patrol as well, just never let it get so there's nobody keeping watch. This is not right, Schenectadians pay high taxes and get Denial of Services with on excuse after another. Since it was decided we should take NYC's problem citizens to make it nicer down there, we should've gotten some funding with them for the extra burden on the taxpayer here. Perhaps extra police babysitting all night won't help, I think it would, and this situation where it just getsleft the way it is cannot stand. Our leaders don't care, it's true. They are busy building a New Schenectady with residents they think they will like better, but with our money. So far it isn't working, but hey.
Hamilton hill has a larger arsenal of guns and drugs than the spd........and are even crazier!!!
the spd can't compete!!!
if someone's been 'wronged' and justice needs to be served....call someone on the hill and you will get faster service!! Happens all the time!!!
And that is the TRUTH!!

It's not always the police unwiling to enforce parking. Geez, DV, you don't have A CLUE about the city! Yet another shooting, tonight, during an attempted robbery. If YOUR BUDDY dems would make their millionaire cronies downtown pay taxes, maybe there would be money for hiring additional cops to address the parking. Or do you think they should be enforcing parking instead of responding to shootings and robberies?
Well?
The cowardly cuckoo will NOT addres the FACT and the TRUTH that the policies of his buddy DEMS are bringing the city down to MAJOR FAILURE -- DRASTICALLY FALLING tax base, falling home values, falling home sales, falling home sale prices, increasing taxes, increase in unpaid taxes, increase in tax foreclosures, increased vacancies, increased blight, fewer necessary services, road conditions so bad that they are doing major damage to cars. (Erie Blvd north of Liberty St), a city who goes after financially struggling homeowners for stupid violations while the city is exempt from keeping it's own properties up to code.

And YOUR BUDDY DEMS have the cops protecting their rich cronies downtown, and taking city cars on pleasure drives home from the city because YOUR BUDDY THE MAYOR REFUSES to make CITY employees LIVE IN the city!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I certainly got fast service when I was cruising Albany Street. I'd been in the neighborhood maybe four minutes. Really, why do we just accept that the decent people of the Hill should not get the protection they need? Think of all the stupid expenditures the city and county make. Wouldn't you rather have a dedicated police officer for that neighborhood, for $80,000 (that should cover salary plus benefits and whatever) instead of a Director of Youth Services whatever the heck that is? I think the youth of the area could use a good night's sleep for their stressed out, overworked parents (yep, many residents do work legit jobs) more than they need some partisan hack providing dubious "services" for them. I also think that it would ease the strain on the other cops. We finally have a large number of decent, dedicated men and women in those jobs, and we're goingto work them to death. I saw that there has been a destructive fire in Saratoga Springs. They lost some historic row houses. The paper said they are going to investigate the cause of the fire. Imagine that. Investigating a fire. I'd heard of such a thing, but it was so long ago, I thought maybe it was just a myth.
