"I had been in thirteen battle engagements, had sunk a submarine, and was the first man ashore in the landing at Roi. In that four years, I thought, What a hell of a waste of a man's life. I lost a lot of friends. I had the task of telling my roommate's parents about our last days together. You lose limbs, sight, part of your life--for what? Old men send young men to war. Flag, banners, and patriotic sayings... We've institutionalized militarism. This came out of World War Two... It gave us the National Security Council. It gave us the CIA, that is able to spy on you and me this very moment. For the first time in the history of man, a country has divided up the world into military districts... You could argue World War Two had to be fought. Hitler had to be stopped. Unfortunately, we translate it unchanged to the situation today... I hate it when they say,"He gave his life for his country."Nobody gives their life for anything. We steal the lives of these kids. We take it away from them. They don't die for the honor and glory of their country. We kill them." -- Admiral Gene LaRocque

US Army - we send your kids to their death --- wouldn't be a good recruiting slogan.

It's pretty well known...Well, except for maybe a few of you guys....That 'bodily harm and the possibility of being killed' is part of the job description when joining any branch of the military.

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I know if I take a job as an iron worker, I understand that there is a chance of bodily harm.  Difference is, I know I'm doing it for a paycheck and not "duty".  And if I walk off the job because I don't want to get hurt or hurt someone else, I don't get hunted down and jailed for going AWOL like I'm some kind of fugitive slave.

So not only do you know your job description, you understand you are property of the federal government for the length of enlistment.

Ahhh, who warned about the military-industrial complex?

It was not a rabid libertarian on a blog, was it? No. But J.O. Box and others love the empire, having not studied the history of empires. When one quits school too soon and believes he has enough education, one finds himself on the short end of the knowledge curve. Just look at the two Boxes.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that "just 28% of Americans say the war in Afghanistan
is worth fighting, the lowest number since 2007 and significantly below the least-popular stretches
of the Iraq war."

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
